I noticed the snow in Ron's question. Up north a lot of the courses, even private courses have extremely hard lies in bunkers, not fluffy, ever! Do you still open the face or try to dig under the ball when it is 70% sand and 30% dirt? Your Florida sand, which I play in the winter, is nothing like what we play in up north!
Great piece of instruction from Rory. Lee Trevino gave one of the best pieces of advice for hard pan bunker shots. Use a club like a gap wedge that has no bounce. If you are not precise with your strike, then using a club with bounce may cause you to blade the ball. Something like a gap wedge gives you a little more room for error in hard pan lies.
Thanks for the tip. I will try that!
I seem to play out of the bunker a lot so this was a good tip for me! Lol
Great tip Rory
That's not a great answer... average non-pro courses have a LOT of packed sand and inconsistency. The lack of an answer makes it sound like there needs to be a "relief" rule in play when courses fail to take care of their bunkers
I totally agree! This is not right. Lift clean and place is a rule in bad conditions so horrible bunkers should have a free drop ruling where it entered no closer to the flag. Now that I think about it I am going to implement that into my buddies and I games
Wow Rory great job out of those tough lies!
Thanks Rory! Great advice out of a hard lie out of the bunker
