What are your thoughts about taking the club straight back 'x' length while keeping the back elbow near the hip (so one is not swinging inside to out)?

My alignment is always an issue. This simple tip (trail elbow/trail hip) makes alignment quite simple.
great explanation and demonstration of the easiest way to execute the concept of shallowing. Wished I'd seen this sooner - only took me 4 years to discover on the range the idea of keeping my trail elbow in at set up :))))
completely sensible, and works well (as you said) with a sand wedge. Simplified swing setups with shorter clubs are especially important with us 70 + golfers who tend to stiffen up a bit ! You emphasized rotation rather than 'dropping the club into', which can keep the mind on the backswing rather than ball to target. thanks
