I tried this idea many years ago and it did not work. This was probably because--as you saw in the video-I did not take into account the tempo of my backswing and follow-through. You can see why Devan's putts weren't clustering as much as he would have liked. Dave Pelz shows how to maintain good tempo. I think tempo and symmetrical swings is a good combination to make this idea work.
I don't doubt that on the course this guy would out putt me on the course. However, this video does not seem to support the words he is speaking. His "worst" putt (which he clearly hits off line) is actually closest to the pin and one I could then putt in for a 2-putt. His "good" cluster is still a long enough way from the hole that I would quite possibly end up with a 3 putt. Not sure this tip/video is really providing any solid guidance.
Like the approach but I would thing the clustering would be the best closest to the pin. Overall yes the concept makes sense to achieve consistency
