Thanks Cindy, great tip. What distance can this be used for? Would have to be a higher lofted club, so I assume only short shots around the green, but curious if there is an application for a longer shot option.

It is a specialty shot and can only be used close to the green. I would use a normal flop shot further away.
Do you need to open up your stance commensurate with how much your club face is open? (E.g. club face open 10 degrees, therefore stance open 10 degrees?). Thanks

You don’t need to open your stance as much as the face. Open yes, but not as much.

Could you show me the picky-uppy swing again...(Cracked me up)...Love your style of coaching, it's refreshing.
Kenneth, I use the term picky-uppy to be sure you understand that you will hinge your wrists up immediately and NOT swing your arms. If you swing your arms and are too stiff, you will tend to dig the ground. The circle shot is a specialty shot that requires a steep angle and to cut underneath the ball. That is what gives it the spin that stops the ball. Let me know if you have any other questions
Cindy, If you're going to open the face of the club, could you just use a 60* wedge (or greater) instead?
Ryan, I would still open a 60 degree up as well. If you have a tight lie, be sure you don’t have much bounce.

what type of lie would require this? obviously buried in rough, but how does the club coming in from the top contact the ball better than coming in from behind?
Clete, when you make the circle you are coming in more level to the ground so you get under the ball with maximum loft.
I learned a shot like this from the guy who fitted me and my boss for Edel wedges. His name escapes me right now.. My boss, Leith Anderson, was a top 100 clubfitter.
