Cindy Miller demonstrates the putting chip and explains why it’s the perfect shot for all golfers from a few yards off the green.

Cindy, I use the same set-up as you describe and illustrate but I usually use my wedge (48 degree) instead of an 8 iron. I think I'll practice this "putting chip" with my 8 iron and see how it feels and rolls out towards the hole. Thank you.
Cindy, Thank you for the Putting Chip tip. Look forward to practicing this chip.
How do you play a 160 yard downhill shot You are on a fairly steep hill with a pond in front of the green
Why use the 8 iron, might a flatter face iron be better or what might make you choose a different iron for the putting chip techinque? Thanks!
Thank you for the tip
Hi Cindy, I have seen this known as toe down chipping and I use it especially when I need to putt over sprinkler heads as I prefer to putt whenever I can. I have been setting up like a regular putt with the ball in the middle of the setup. So I am not understanding why you would want to put the ball on your back foot unless in this example you need it to go further? I typically do this with a 7 iron on every shot like this and feel how far I need to lag it towards the hole. Could you elaborate on the ball at the back foot for me? Thanks!
Cindy, I attended a practice session many years ago with Ray Floyd. His tactic was exactly as you demonstrate, but he called it "Putt with Loft". I have used this method ever since then with great success. My dad taught me also many years ago that using an 8 iron from just off the green was the thing to do, remembering that the 8 iron flies about exactly halfway to the hole then rolls out nicely. Those suggestions were great, and I have given them to many fellow golfers. Thanks for the tip, I know it will work for all your listeners. Happy New Year.
Just to confirm: Are these two points correct:
1) Toe down (ie, the only part that can lightly brush the grass) and the heel raised?
2) The face is NOT square to target, but slightly closed?
This is the first lesson that I have watched you teach. I just want to say that I like your style. Practical straightforward advice for people who will listen. Nice Job!!!!!
I liked that tip, Cindy. Nice job of detailing it, including telling viewers that you used an 8 iron.

Cindy, Thank you for the Putting Chip tip. Look forward to practicing this chip.
