Presidential at Hickory Valley Golf Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses available at the Hickory Valley Golf Club, the Presidential and the Ambassador. The Presidential is the flagship course and it is also the longer and tougher of the two. The layout incorporates nine of the club's original 27 holes. The Presidential is nearly 300 yards longer than its sister course at 6,721 yards from the championship tees. The golf course has a nice balance of player-friendly features and challenging hazards. The wide fairways are quite forgiving, while the large, undulating greens are framed with bunkers. The signature hole is the par-4 second, which gently doglegs right, requiring a long and accurate tee shot. You're not out of trouble yet though, you'll still have to face the heavily bunkered green that also has a pond to the right.

I bring your bug spray!
Played a Friday twilight round on a mostly empty course. Flat and walkable for those so inclined. Several creeks which wind through the course made things interesting but probably also support the healthy population of biting insects. Conditions were good. Rough was thick, but not unfair. Balls in rough were sometimes hard to find. Nearly all the greens were postage stamps. Staff was more friendly than some reviews would lead you to believe.
ambassador course needs attention
fairways, tight and weedy
roughs. up
trees, overgrown
Needs work
Course was okay but the sand traps were horrible
No rakes
The group in front of us was so slow that it took an hour to play the first three holes. They let us play through after hole four. It was a five hour round
What A Tough Course!
The rough will eat you alive, 2.5" to 3" of thick dense rough. The layout is very challanging with slow undulated greens that will make your head spin. The tee boxes suck so bad, they need to be mowed down to 0.25" to 0.50" big time.
The starter was very rude! I seen no difference in this course verse the ambassador course the cart path needs to be fixed the pace was ridiculous slow
Overpriced for maintenance
There are much better deals in the area than this. While I love the layout and how challenging it is, the maintenance is questionable at best. The greens are never the same week to week and the bunkers are awful compared to lower priced courses in the area let alone the courses charging these prices.
Excellent
The staff and Steve the Pro super. Yes I would recommend this course to anyone.
Solid course
First time playing here. Staff was very helpful. Played the Presidential course. Stay in the fairway because the rough is high. Bunkers need sand that was the only downside,it was like concrete. Overall it was a good experience. Would play there again.
Average
course is in decent shape. Greens good. Need to trim trees back.
Beauty and the Beast!
For the time of year, the course was in fantastic shape. HVGC Ambassador is a beautiful course, with rolling hills and pretty water features, but if your not paying attention to yardage on every shot you are in trouble. This course is a beast because you have to be very accurate to succeed -- hitting fairways is key! Beautiful course, well kept, friendly staff, but hit your shots accurately and in the fairway or you'll be posting a big number.
