Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club

About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Always a nice course…definitely better than the Ambassador
In much better condition than the other course on site, the Ambassador. Tee boxes were a little beat up but manageable. Always enjoy this layout. Will definitely look to play this one again.
Awful service
Made a reservation for 7:50 on golf now. When we got to the course we noticed there was a golf outting ready to go out. The person at the desk in the club house said they had no booking for 7:50 and everyone who could go out before the group outing had already went out. No resolution was offered. He told me I had to dispute the charge and cancelling with golf now and did not care at all.
Tough course!
12 handicap and struggled to break 90..! It’s a very unique and very challenging course. All the Par fives except for one force you to hit an iron or wood off the tees because of water or hazards, which I did like. It made it more challenging. However, 3 of the tees shots are basically unfair even from the whites. If you can hit a five wood 220 to 230 consistently straight, you will play well here.. I only hit my driver. I believe four times the whole round.. I will definitely play here again but again it’s very difficult
Good course fair prices
fairways were a little rough with some areas that were dead grass or dirt, but all in all solid conditions. Greens were in great shape and tee boxes were decent. Sand traps were a little on the hard side and needed to be raked and fluffed.
Course layout too complex
Good value, but, too complex course layout. Some halls can be very dangerous!
In rough shape.
I have played this course plenty this Summer. Unfortunately, I have watched the condition of it deteriorate significantly. The fairways are destroyed and extremely patchy. I hope that they are able to revive it for next year. Going to need A LOT of work.
Irresponsible
Might actually have been the most atrocious conditions i've ever seen on a golf course. Not sure if they're battling recent flood conditions but this was an absolute waste of my time and money. Not recommending.
Greens are patchy, fairways are 10% just dirt
No grass on large parts of greens. Fairways have large dirt patches too
Embarrassing conditions
I played this course multiple times over the years ,
But green and fairway conditions are worst I ever seen.
I played with 3 other people and they all agreed that it is embarrassing conditions.
I don’t think I will come back again.
Terrible condition
I have played this course before, but never seen in this bad condition. The greens were burned out. The fair were ways or clumps of grass and some look like dirt roads. They really let this course deteriorate. It’s been a couple years since I played here. I won’t play here again. The staff weren’t friendly. The pace was very slow because you’re a foursome that took their time.
Horrendous Experience
We specifically booked the earliest tee time that had all 4 player slots open. When checking in, we were informed that we were moved to a later time and paired with another twosome to allow a foursome to play together. There was no advanced notice, no request, and no discussion. The group that took our original tee time had - you guessed it - only two players.
The course was in by far the worst shape I've seen for a golf course this year. Nearly every tee box was more dirt than grass, every fairway had multiple patches of dead grass, and multiple greens looked like someone took a blowtorch to them. I've only played here 5-10 times the last few years, but I won't be back after today.
Trash
Bad shape, fairways are all in bad shape, tee boxes are grass less, sand is concrete, other locals are better and cheaper.
Not worth full rate.
Fairways are cooked
Course is usally nice but played it few months ago after heavy rain storm it was soggy but understandable today the almost all the fairways had large dead areas not worth paying $80
Course conditions were very bad.
We’ve played Hickory Valley for 30 years and honestly the current conditions are deplorable. Tee boxes, fairways, collars around the greens, general maintenance such as cutting weeds next to the cart paths and around hazards. It’s really in shockingly bad shape and in just a general state of neglect. Greens were fast but had many burned out and dead spots. We played Ambassador today. $65 is embarrassing for the conditions. We understand that the course has low lying areas but not on every hole of the course Sadly it appears that management has given up. There are much better options out there.
Conditions
Course was in rough condition. Lack of rain hurts but fairways were not in decent shape. Tons of staff cutting grass.. more emphasis should be on the conditions of the fairways.. tons of bear spots
Good
Fairways in bad shape. Some tee boxes to hard to get a tee in. Greens in good shape
