Golfer Reviews
Basically empty on a Monday afternoon
Fun layout with a lot of elevation change, especially the front nine. Rough currently pretty thick making it easy to lose a ball and takes time to hunt them down even a few feet off the fairways or greens, which can slow play. Greens have a few dead spots but mostly right by the fringe and not near pins. Cart paths are in terrible shape, extremely bumpy and uneven. I've been less jostled on a ship in a hurricane with 20 ft swells. :)
ROUGH GOING
The course was in very good playing condition. For the recreational golfer the rough was extremely too high causing a steady search for golf balls slowing up play and losing golf balls in the high rough.
The cost of range balls was too costly for the piddly amount of balls in a basket around 20 balls old and beat up for $10.00, that's too much. It would be better to bring your own oldies and hit them away compared to the ancient balls in the basket.
Best value
I believe it had been close to 2 years since I played here and was pleasantly surprised with the course conditions this time. The changes were evident to include improvement to fairways, rough and greens. The traps were groomed after a rain storm the night before which was ahead of 90% of courses played these days. Best value in the area at this time.
Great value for the $
I would consider HGC my home course. I’m happy with most aspects except for the tee boxes. They are in rough shape. Please address this fall!
Great But…
Frequent at Hanover for the price and proximity. Most tee boxes and greens are in great shape (15 was beautiful) and the course is pretty nice. Only reasons for the lower stars were because the turn between 9-10 is backside of course, not at clubhouse, and the daily mowing going on. You can take a break at 7th though. Guys do well maintaining it.
Perfect for less than $50
This is a good course for improving your game. Front 9 is super fun and memorable for a Virginia course. While the back is a more relaxed, flat, and old link styled. For $37 (and no expectation to PB) this course rocks.
Nice Course, Well maintained
We signed up on line and drove from Fredericksburg. Nice course.Tee boxes are in good shape. Fairways are in very good condition. Putting greens are in very good condition, but are slow. The front 9 is rolling and hilly. The back 9 is flatter and runs along a river.. A nice mix.
Very nice carts. Very nice restrooms. Very nice bar.
Highly recommend.
Hidden gem in Ashland
While several courses in the area are having issues with greens, Hanover course is very well maintained . Greens and fairways are in very nice conditions.. bunkers were fluffy and well maintained. Some challenging holes make it interesting. I will return.
Good Course
The course was in good shape and the layout is good but the greens were very slow. Overall I would play here again and I would recommend this course to others.
Decent Course
I’m in VA on a work trip and went to this course because it was close to work. The front 9 is really tight with trees and the back is pretty open. Fairways are in pretty rough shape and so were some of the greens. The greens that were in decent shape rolled pretty well. The club house is full of Sunday Swagger gear and has some nice bags too.
It’s a good quick course to play but if you have time to drive and a little more money to spend, I would go somewhere else.
