Great course
The maintenance on this Arnold Palmer Signature Course is outstanding. Fairways and greens are bentgrass and staff works hard to keep them in shape year round. This is not an easy task in the local hot and humid summers. Spring and Fall are the best times on this course, but if you can survive Richmond summers, the course is in good shape to greet you. Richmond winters allow for quite a bit of play. The holes are challenging but fair.
Excellent Golf Experience
This Arnold Palmer course is maintained in pristine condition. Like all Palmer courses it is designed with the golfer in mind. Wide fairways are made challenging by strategic bunkers. Greens are challenging but fair. Highly recommend this course.
Absolutely Beautiful
One should know that when you are playing an Arnold Palmer designed track that it should be top notch. But nothing can really prepare one for the amount of thought that went into the Federal Club. Expertly placed bunkers, smooth undulating greens, and lush second cut rough is only the beginning. Every single hole at this course has a sense of difficulty while yielding itself to a potential birdie opportunity. The finishing hole, a 430 yard downhill par four is an excellent example of giving players options. It has several fairway bunkers that divide up a large fairway into several parts. To ensure that one is safe in the fairway an iron is a correct play. But even playing iron has its downside. It leaves you with a long iron shot into a green protected by water. Another play would be to hit driver, bringing several of the fairway bunkers into play. These are the types of decision that a golfer is faced with on every single shot at this course. The practice facility is one of the best in the area with a chipping green, putting green, driving range, and a short game area where one can work on their game from inside 100 yards. I would highly recommend this course, it is in fantastic condition year round and is a pleasure to play.
I'll be back
Great course, layout and conditions. Cannot wait for it to be spring and come back. Membership may be in my future.
This club is incredible!
The Federal Club has come a long way! While they got off to a rocky start years ago, the place is in PRISTINE now. The entire course is kept in amazing condition, really the best I have seen in a long time in the Richmond area. The course is challenging but still fun to play. They are in the process of building the clubhouse which will be done soon and have added tennis courts. It is harder to get a tee time than a few years ago as the course has become so popular, but I am happy to see this great success story. The neighborhood around the club (Mountain Run) has really filled in with some beautiful homes as well. You get the feel you are way far out in the countryside when you play this course, yet you are only 10 minutes fro Short Pump area. I highly recommend this course. The staff is also friendly and helpful.
Should be on "Best in State" list
Near-perfect conditions. One of Palmer's best designs. Will become an elite club once the permanent clubhouse is completed. Superb practice facilities. Greens are lightning fast but true.
Outstanding track
Arguably the best course in central VA. Bent grass throughout. Conditions are superb. The first six holes are about as difficult as it gets - but still plenty of birdie holes out there. I have played a lot of golf all over the mid atlantic, and can honestely say, I'd put this course up with any of them. It recently was a US Amatuer Qualifier host site, and from the scores - more than held its own. I never miss an opportunity to play here - and would reccommend to anyone in the area to play it.
BEST course in central VA. no guestion about it.
By far the BEST course in central VA, the greens were very tough and fast. It took me some time to get use to them. If u like tough course that will make u play all the clubs in ur bag this is the place.
Visual Challenging, Stay Focused
This is a fantastic course. It is difficult even from the White Tee. The fairways are the best I've ever played. Can you believe it, bent grass greens, tee boxes, and fairways. The first cut is I believe Bluegrass, with heavy deep Fescue in the second cut. Hit it here and forget it. The greens are very undulated and fast. if your in the wrong position, it will be a difficult two putt at best. The practice facility is tops. I just can't make enough positive comments. I do not believe it is public but they offer a very good membership plan. This is a growing club and I suspect will be difficult to join in the future.
Amazing course for a great price.
Will play again for sure when specials are available.
Lightning fast, excellent condition
The course played pretty tough. The greens were pristine and fast and the pins were in difficult positions. The rough was pretty long. The course was in excellent shape and well worth the money. The only knock was some shallow bunker insulation hampered one shot. Great practice facility.
Course condition
This course has been so much fun to play on. This is how a golf course should look. Well taken care of and I would recommend it to anyone.
Great course
Great condition & nice design.. Perfect course....
Great layout challenging greens
AQccuracy is key when approaching the greens, narrowly missing will result in extra strokes. Green are quick and have plenty of movement.
