Golfer Reviews
Don’t recommend
There was a dead rat on the tee box of hole 15. Ranger came up to us and rushed us through the course and had comments on our swings which weren’t good. Great first experience
Fun round
Course is in pretty good shape with the exception of many of the tee boxes which have not been mowed in a while. A few of greens need some help but overall good.
The golf cart we were in spewed foul exhaust the whole round. It needs a tuneup or something.
For Steve, the Ranger
It pains me to write about my recent experience at BCC from last weekend. I grew up playing here, played high school golf here, and for one season I was a part of the Men’s League. BCC will always be a personal favorite.
This "one" star review which otherwise would be a zero if I could do so is directed at one individual, the Ranger, Steve. This "gentleman" single-handedly created one of the worst golf experiences I have ever encountered in my near 30-years of golfing.
My tee time was after 4pm, and I completely understand when it comes to twilight times, it is not guaranteed that 18 holes will be completed. Still, in the middle of July, there is ample daylight until 8:30pm and surely anyone who tees off before 5pm should have a chance to complete their rounds.
Waiting to tee off, I watched Steve decide to pair a single player with an established foursome, making them a group of five. Every group who teed off after 4pm did not complete their rounds due to this unconscionable decision. By hole #8, there was a group on the green, another on the fairway, and three more on the tee. It took over 2.5 hours to play the front nine.
By hole #10 (after 7pm), Steve informs me and my playing partner to "pick it up if we want any hope to finish 18." Less than 45-minutes later, before 8pm, he drives his cart up to the 13th green and says, "it's our last hole," even though I have a push cart.
We managed to get to the 16th green by 8:20, where Steve returns and scolds my friend for not returning his cart "by 8:15," which, he never specified in any prior interaction. Several other carts were still ahead of and behind us, with others frantically trying to finish their rounds. At this point, my friend dislodged his bag and left the cart for Steve to whisk away. I took the opportunity to ask Steve the one question that was on my mind all day:
"Why did you decide to send out a group of five at 4pm?"
Steve's answer lacked accountability; "I was doing what the people in the pro-shop told me to do. Take it up with them or Matt." Funny that a near 60(?) year old man is blaming either the teenager sitting in the pro shop, or Matt, the Assistant Pro. I have doubts that either of those guys decided to do that.
I expressed my doubts to Steve and said not only did I see you pair the single player with an established foursome, but in doing so, you gave every group behind them zero-chance of completing 18-holes. You essentially gave every subsequent group a proverbial middle-finger and his apathetic behavior throughout the day proved my point.
His final response to my rebuttal was jarring; "That fivesome was not the reason you didn't finish 18-holes." If this guy truly believes that a fivesome was not preventing every subsequent group from completing 18-holes, then he is an absolute moron.
Steve, you lack integrity and have no sense of professionalism. You sold out your colleagues by not taking accountability for a decision you made before the round even started. The fact you drove your cart right up on the apron of hole #13 and had the tires within inches of the green show you don't respect the course that employs you. I hope the Superintendent knows that, as a significant amount of work has been put on the course in the last few years (i.e. hole #11).
If it wasn't abundantly clear, I am dismayed at Steve's (lack of) stewardship from start to finish. While I will forever have fond memories of BCC, I doubt I will return for quite some time. To anyone booking a round, especially a twilight round, please take note, considering "a fivesome shouldn't impact your ability to finish."
Dirk
The condition of the course is improving! Staff is great !
Poor tee boxes
First time I played since they changed up a few holes on the back 9. Tee boxes need some work though and a few sand traps need sand in them. Other than that course was good.
Right what you would expect
Staff were very nice and welcoming. Course was open and not too much trouble. Driving range limited to irons but has a chipoing and putting areas. Good value.
Improving Conditions
I played here a few times last year and conditions are starting to improve, last year the tee boxes were a major concern and in terrible condition, tee boxes are getting better however some tee boxes need to be cut down or were a bit patchy, it feels like we were teeing off in the rough on a few tee boxes, hopefully conditions continue to improve the rest of the year.
Rough
We got together for a round of golf at Bensalem country club. There were no notifications online, nor at the pro shop regarding the tee box conditions. They were atrocious. I would estimate that roughly 8 to 10 tee boxes for either in horrible shape, or worse yet, closed completely. With these type conditions, it takes a lot of nerve to charge the full in season rate. But Bensalem did. When I shared my feelings about this with the manager at the pro shop, he was rude and seemed to care less. I won’t be back.
Disappointing
Met with friends and we golfed at Bensalem country club. Nowhere on the website or at the pro shop is there any mention about the condition of the tee boxes. They charge a full rate for the round, but there were at least 10 tee boxes that were closed. In my opinion, they should give some type of discount because this course is not ready for in-season play just yet. When I approached the gentleman in the pro shop to ask about it, I was greeted with a rude one word response. I won’t go back!!
Nice course
I love the layout and difficulty of the course. My complaints were 3 holes the tee boxes are closed for repair and charge full price. The rangers were always eyeing us throughout the game like a hawk. It was empty so pace of
Play wasn't an issue. I don't know what they were doing. Maybe they were bored ? It was just an uncomfortable feeling.
