Golfer Reviews
Great layout, bad value
This is a great layout and challenging course and the conditions are overall good, the green fees don't represent any value to the course, paying over $85 for a weekend afternoon round is not worth it here, especially since some fairways and fringes had crab grass on them and some sand traps lacked actual sand. There are other options to play with better value than currently at Rancocas.
Some Improvements
Course is in much better shape than this time last year. The greens are ok for the most part (despite the ball marks and occasional dead patch/fungal? issues, the tee boxes are adequate and the fairways are pretty solid. They're putting in some work on the bunkers and cart paths which is promising. Other than that there's not much to say that hasn't already been addressed. The front 9 is very narrow and causes pace of play issues, while the back 9 opens up a bit but is significantly longer. A big issue with the course is that the yardages are nowhere near what's listed on the scorecard on a lot of holes. In some cases it's a 50+ yard discrepancy, so if you have a GPS make sure you use it. Adding an extra set of tee boxes would help out a lot as well, considering there's a ~1000 yard difference between the forward and middle tees. Splitting the difference or creating a combo tee setup might help with some of the issues. Overall not too bad though and worth playing if you can get a Hot Deal. Still too pricey if you're paying full price. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 because there were no water coolers on the course in the middle of August.
What a waste of time and money
This course made me realize maybe golf isn’t what you should do in your fun time. Balls flying all over the place on every hole, tee time booked b2b2b2b with no possible chance of playing 18 in under 5+ hours. And just a bunch of hackers all over the place.
Rancocas Golf course
Overall the course was in great shape. The sand traps needed some work, but they were working on refilling the sand on some holes during the round
Overall
This course is ideal for a good challenge and is well kept..
Greatly improved
I played this course years ago and it was a cow pasture. Now, this course is in great condition. The fairways are perfect, the rough is moderately high and thick, the greens are small but roll true. The only small knock is the bunkers have a lot of small stones in them, other than that the course is fantastic. I will come back here often. Well worth the money. Now I did play on a Wednesday morning so, I don't know how busy it gets on the weekends. I would recommend this course.
Reasonably Priced for the Course
To be fair, a lot of rain fell in the days before we played. Having played Rancocas last Summer during a prolonged dry-spell, I had hoped that the course conditions would be better this year. To some extent they were, but still a number of greens had patches of rot and many tee-boxes were down to the dirt. Off of the fairways, the rough was very thick and sand traps were often underwater. It didn't help that we had "cart path only" conditions.
Nice Place
First time playing here and was impressed. Course was in very good shape. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Services were simple but available. Course layout was a little bit short but had some nice holes. Pace of play was ok but could have been better. Overall a good experience and worth the money.
Challenging not by design
The greens were in rough shape. They used the edge of some greens to repair the middle of others which wasn’t working well. The front 9 is also super tight and unforgiving for good shots slightly off line. The sand traps are inconsistent at best and mostly compacted.
The pace of play for a Sunday morning was good. The range / food were also above average. Not worth the $100 though. I won’t be back
Tinless
The staff are doing a fabulous job in keeping this golf course a classic!
Some greens with bad spots
Overall a good pace of play (4:15).
Surprised by a few greens with spotty areas. Most are in great shape & rolling nicely.
Tee boxes were 9/10.
Traps were 8/10.
Bill at checkin and Paige at halfway were awesome!
Porkroll & cheese. Only thing RGC can’t control: the raven/crows taking the last bites of that great halfway sammie from our cart on 10 & 12, hahaha!
