Unplayable Greens
We would’ve been better off playing in city park…. Greens were in terrible, completely unplayable condition. They were not recently aerated either. No heads up from anyone in the pro shop. Not likely to ever play here again.
Not Playable - Greens completely Destroyed
Course is in very rough condition. Greens are 50% long grass along as fringe/fairway and 50% bare dirt patches it’s pointless trying to putt I just picked my ball up majority of the time. Bunkers were overgrown with weeds and grass. If maintained it could be a decent course. 2/10 rated course with municipalities courses averaging around 5-6/10 rated.
Should be charged with theft
Absolutely the worst “golf” experience of my life. Upon arrival, I was charged an additional fee for cart although the booking included the cart. Greens were killed off last year and not much improvement this year. It appears that they have said to heck with the remainder of the course. HORRIBLE conditions. I wouldn’t play it again for $5.00! Golf Now should investigate and remove any association with this place. It would take millions to get to goat ranch status.
Great Layout Conditions Improving
I booked this round at Canewood knowing that the course has issues with the greens. At check in, Bill in the Pro shop informed us up front what to expect with the greens and the history behind the issues. I told him we were aware but wanted to try the course. He met us after our round to get our input. The tee boxes and fairways were great and the rough was challenging since weather conditions had prevented mowing, but the mowing crews were out during our round. Given time, I am confident that the greens will recover with the efforts they are putting in to bring them back. Enjoyed our round!
Terrible condition.
Greens were diseased and not playable. Tee boxes were long and tore up. Fairways were ok. Rough is too long, grass clippings in rows and the grass itself is full of clover and junk grass. The layout of rhe course is nice. Do not waiste your time here untill they fix.
Awful greens
Not saying it will be forever but as of now the greens are in horrible shape. Some are completely dead with crabgrass everywhere. Their story is that someone poisoned the pond that they use to water the greens and it killed them all. The fairways are decent but their rough consists of whatever will grow there naturally. This course would have been great if the greens were nicer but I feel like their price is pretty steep for a goat ranch.
Needs a lot of work
We booked a tee time online for $24.00. When we got to the pro shop, we were charged $41/each. This course is not worth $41 per round. Fairways need to be mowed, greens are absolutely horrendous with zero break, and the course was cart path only even though it was completely unnecessary. I remember a time when Canewood was one of the better courses in the area, but it’s clear that management has changed. It’s a shame because the restaurant and bar is awesome, I do like the course layout, it’s not overly long and the staff is friendly. It is also a pretty course when it’s manicured. If it had better management it would be a desirable place to play. It was borderline impossible to make a put outside of 6 feet. We left after 12 holes. I was very disappointed.
Coming around nicely
Staff very friendly, fairways looking good, greens much improved not 100% but not fast no scoring low possible. Look for hot deals for best practice. Free practice n e t is nice before round
No way!
Played this course a couple of years ago. Was in great condition! Played Sunday and was dumbfounded at what I saw! Greens were fuzzy, tee boxes not mowed, rough was US Open style(found more golf balls than my own!).
Found out that last summer the greens keeper sprayer algae killer on the greens and killed everything! Although this may be true, they could have made the other aspects of the course better while rebuilding the greens.
No notation on the website and they charge $48 to okay. As of now, with the condition of the course, not worth more than $25-30.
Upcoming local course
Great value, challenging layouts, need to keep grooming the course and it will be in high demand.
They’ve lost it!
We use to play this course regularly for several years. I had accident, haven’t played for 5 years. Came here expecting to play a descent course as was in the past. Not NOW! Don’t waste your time or money! You will be disappointed! I took a friend and had to spend the day apologizing! Greens were rough. Slow. Eat up. Couldn’t putt without moving your ball to find a spot that was playable. Fairways were full of weeds, hardly any grass. If your ball went an inch out of fairways, gone. You’d have to gps your ball to find it in the thick, high, weeds! Tee boxes were average. They may to get their act together. Either close the course or fix it! This is an embarrassment to every who lives in Canewood subdivision or Georgetown. 2.5/10.
Greens were same length as fairways
I get it’s only first week of May, but I don’t think you should be charging people full price to play a course that’s impossible to roll a putt on. Greens were in some of the worst shape I’ve ever played on, and was only told upfront that things would be “playing slow”. Do not waste money.
Greens are under repair
My issues more with GolfNow rather than the actual golf course, all the greens are under repair at the moment, and GolfNow did not mention anything about this.
And you’ll know, good luck, trying to reach out to someone that works at GolfNow.
Greens were closed, no notice
Reserved a round online for two last Sunday morning. When we arrived we were notified that the greens are closed, so the flags have been placed in the fairways.
It was too late to get a tee time anywhere close. No discount was offered for the fact we had to put on the fairways.
Call the Police
It is a crime to call this a good course. All greens were closed due to damage caused by chemical. No sign posted at the pro shop to advise you that the greens were all damaged. The excuse offered by the kid who check is in was that it is stated on their website.
