Pelham Bay at Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course

Have played Pelham Bay since I took up golf 50 years ago. The investment by NYC from the Giuliani Adm is still visible in excellent greens and sculptured traps. The ninth green with ageless hanging tree is a landmark. In early May course was in excellent shape and provides more attractive views than you might expect.

Two things course might consider:

1. A food stand closer to 9th green - 10th tee to expedite refreshments. Cart attendant did nice job making rounds.

2. The 18th holes is barren until you reach an interesting elevated green. To break up the onen field look, adding one or more fairway traps along left side woyld make hole more distinguished and push shots to the right away from roadway.

Otherwise an under valued, attractive course that provides an excellent golf day.

As we checked in, we were told that we had to wait for the entire morning outing to come off the course. When we were able to check in and drove to Hole #1 there was probably 12 groups in front of us waiting to tee off. This happened 30 minutes AFTER our tee time. We were told that we could go to the other course which we did. Had to wait another 15 minutes as others ran to this course. The group in front of us was extremely slow and not hitting far. They were waiting for the group in front of them to get close to the green. There was no way they could hit that far. Where were the rangers? Things kind of got a bit better until we got to the 10th hole where we saw a bunch of new people teeing off.

Lots of slow walkers as well. We could not wait for another 4 groups to tee off so we jumped ahead to hole 14. Such an unorganized ordeal. Paid money and didn't get our full round in. I have been golfing for a very long time and never experienced a round like this before. Will never return. HORRIBLE

It was a very nice day weatherwise, but it really wasn’t worth it, it took me over three hours to play nine holes so I had to leave without playing 18. there was no Ranger whatsoever anywhere to be seen, and there was a lot of foursomes that weren’t playing at pace. When I went to return the cart and I told the staff that I was going to require a refund because of the extreme Lopez, they asked if I had screamed at the two groups in front of me, I told them that that’s his job not mine, we pay the green fees, very expensive green fees to have stuff making sure that the pace is being followed, that shouldn’t be my job, I should just come in play and have fun so yeah, there is appointed that took me three hours to play nine holes and I wasn’t going to spend more than six hours to play around the golf at a mediocre golf course on a Monday.

Rangers need to be better. Pace of play was horrible. Tee’d off 30 minutes late. Trying for a quick 9 before NFL and it took over 3 hours.

Just make sure you bring your own bug spray. The mosquitoes pierce through your shirt and pants.

There are so many mosquitoes on the golf course. Even after applying and spraying mosquito repellent, they still chase me and bite me in many places.

For what they are asking price wise with the course conditions , it’s just not right … no way should it take 6-7 hours to play 18 holes .. the greens were the worst I’ve ever played on . And I do not mind but for 120$ they just not right . The only positive I encountered was the gentleman handing out carts and the starter .. both were super nice gentleman.. personally I would just drive up 20 minutes north to westchester to play nicer courses for half the price …

This would be a good public course however a greeting ground for mosquitoes. They are awful and bug repellent did not matter.. it's a problem that has to be addressed
