Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Battling to be great.

Drove down from Gainesville while visiting my parents and played yesterday for the first time. I loved this course. It is wonderfully unique by comparison to most Florida courses. The layout is fun and interesting and the 6 sets of tees offer a great experience to all levels of player. The greens were in great shape and feature lots of undulation. You’ll want to stay underneath the hole when possible. Tees were in pretty good shape and pretty level. The struggles here are the same as most public Florida courses. They’re battling from the dry spring and the weeds had ample opportunity to grow in before the Bermuda could push them out. There are patchy spots and the rough is hit and miss, but again, very similar struggles to other places. That said, no shots were impacted by lack of grass (also, if you feel like you need that to hit good shots, maybe pay for some lessons instead). This place needs to be shown some love from the community and get some more play so that they can afford to give it what it needs to be great again. This is truly a wonderful track and it would be a shame to see it go the way of so many other courses. I will definitely be back!

Overall the course is in rough shape, but the price is right

Greens are in good condition. Fairways and tee boxes are in poor shape, (especially on the front nine) Cart paths are a joke, with pot holes that could break your back! Many of the sand traps have no rakes so there are footprints everywhere in those traps. The course itself is very challenging, it's just too bad it's not in better shape.

Could be great

This course could be awesome if they could get the condition of the fairways improved. It’s a solid layout, but conditions in a lot of places were just terrible. That said, the greens were really good, and the bunkers were well manicured which at least makes it playable. But for some reason, there were no bunker rakes anywhere on the course or on the cart. A lot of the on course fixtures (ball washers, etc.) were old and in rough shape. I really hope this is a place that they’re trying to fix up as I’d love to come back and play it again if it was in better condition.

Perfect day for golf

Weather was perfect really enjoyed the day on the course. Pace of play was good no wait, greens were good all be it a bit slow. Dry weather has impacted fairways grass in need of water. Staff very friendly overall good day on the course look forward to next time.

Rough course

As an above average golfer, I like to have grass in the fairways and around the green. While the greens were in decent shape, the fairways and around the greens were mostly dirt. I have played this course many times over the years, but not in quite some time. It is in as bad a shape as I can ever remember. Will not be playing again if any other course is available.

Greens were very good. Fairways were sparse in some areas but we just moved the ball to a grassy area.

Cart paths have needed repair for at least the past 10 years. Green are good. Fairways are bad. The layout is good.
