The Beaufort Club, Beaufort NC -- Front 9 Review
Played the front 9 on a beautiful day with the course in excellent shape. Fairways and greens were well maintained, and conditions really could not have been much better. That part deserves full credit.
That said, at $55 for 9 holes with cart included, there are expectations that come with that price point, and the technology situation falls short. The carts are equipped with GPS geofencing that restricts where you can drive, which is fine and fairly standard, but there is no yardage GPS display on the carts. If you have the hardware infrastructure for cart GPS already, adding a yardage display is not a big leap. At this rate, it should be there.
The course design on the front 9 also presents a real challenge in a way that is not always fun. Nearly every par 4 and par 5 features either a blind shot off the tee or a significant water hazard, and in many cases both. That combination without GPS yardage is genuinely frustrating. You are left guessing on distance and guessing on what is ahead, which slows pace of play and takes some of the enjoyment out of an otherwise attractive layout.
Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, but with a heads up. Know what you are walking into, download a yardage app before you tee off, and bring extra balls for the front 9. The course has real quality and is worth playing, but it has not quite caught up to what it charges. Add yardage GPS to the carts and this becomes an easy recommendation with no asterisk.
3 out of 5
3 star front 9, 5 star back. 4 star overall
1. Back 9 genuinely beautiful. We literally had it to ourselves…perfect.
2. Excellent conditions, although I expect any considerable rain fall will render it a quite different experience.
2a. Greens felt spongy…so slow. Still rolled true and pins seems to have accommodated this…fun ways to get it close from around the green.
Front 9 is in same shape. Good to great. It just gave me big time no name Florida course, strange routing and unwalkable for most…personal bias I’m sure…
Excellent practice facilities and great food. If near by and priced right, you should go and spend a day.
Water water Everywhere
Course presented many challenges but was fun to play. Every hole had water and some of the greens were very challenging with their different slopes. Overall a fun course to plan. However, not much on being a pretty course. On the negative side, there was no starter or marshal and no one dealing with the carts. Only the nice person checking you in and giving you a cart key. Group checking in before me had the T time directly in front of me. We were all about an hour early, they asked about a starter. Once realizing there wasnt one, they loaded up and went to the first T. Well before their t time. Thats what happens with no starter.
Great course and golfing companions
The course was in great condition, except for the slow greens which had recently been punched. Met 2 very nice young men who let me join them.
Awesome course
Super fun course with a really cool layout with lots of water and interesting holes. Course conditions were great for January!
Had the time of my life with my son. I am now a one handed golfer after a stroke stole my left side. Playing here really got me excited to learn how to play all over again this time with only one hand. We will absolutely play there again on vacation.
Worth it! Go Play!
Fantastic layout. Long and challenging. Thick rough, interesting layout, and good condition. Unlike many courses down here, built on huge plot of land and feels like you are in the middle of nowhere at times.
fantastic course
We were on vacation at Atlantic Beach, NC, and were looking for a course. Got a great deal on GolfNow, and i have to say Beaufort Club was fantastic! The course can play as easy or as hard as you like (we played the white tees at about 6200 yards, while the tips played at about 7200 yards). the fairways were in fantastic shape, i was surprised to see the greens were actually bent-grass greens instead of bermuda, so that was unexpected. they were in fantastic condition. No regrets, and i really have nothing bad to say about the place at all. Will definitely come back.
Vacation play
Hot deals was an excellent value. Beautiful course.
Beautiful, Challenging, But Fair
Beautiful course filled with challenges and risk/reward decisions to be made. Play too conservative and you may not reach many of the greens in regulation, but take too many chances and there are plenty of hazards to capture your ball.
