Wolf Corner/Horsepen at Hearthstone Country Club
About
The original 18 opened in 1977 after Jay Riviere brought in over 2,000 trees to line the fairways, and a third nine was added in 1986 by Joe Finger. Each nine features some impressive, difficult par 3 holes and plenty of bunkers throughout the design.
The Wolf Corner Course is the shortest of the three nines, and is more wide open. Its famous par 3 is No. 6, which plays only 106 yards but features a green surrounded by water on three sides.
The Horsepen Course is flat and wide open, spotted by a few ravines located by the greens. No. 3 goes 232 yards, and No. 5 is 198 yards with a lake to the right of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy 90, exit Eldridge and turn north. When you come to FM 529, head west, find Huffmeister, and turn west again.

Excellent Conditions
This track is a combination of two 9 hole courses at Hearthstone Country Club. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The course conditions are fantastic for the money, and it has never taken me more than 3 and a half hours to play 18 holes. Usually, it’s between 2-3 hours.
As far as layout, it is tightly wedged in a residential area, so sloppy golf can be rewarded with an occasional OB into a yard or off of the side of a house. The worst part of the course is that some of the houses are dated and it makes the course seem a little less attractive, but the course itself is well cared for and the greens are almost always some of the best in town. Jackrabbit is the most scenic 9 hole course at the club, and it’s the longest as well.
