Walden on Lake Houston Golf & Country Club
About
Patterned after the successful Robert Von Hagge/Bruce Devlin-designed Walden on Lake Conroe, this course opened in 1982 and immediately became known for its numerous bunkers and lakes. Considered a shotmaker's course, this layout features over 100 bunkers and requires precise play throughout.
Holes of note are the intimidating opening hole-a long, bending par 4 with a lake guarding the right side. Beware of the pin placement on this multi-tiered green. No. 8 is a 429-yard par 4 that requires a long drive and perfect approach because of the channel that guards the tiny, bunker-loaded green. On the back No. 14 is the best, dominated by a large lake in the fairway. At 444 yards it also requires a challengingly long approach into a small green.
Getting there : From U.S. Hwy. 59 north, take the FM 1960 exit and go east for 8 miles to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the road.

Beautiful course!
Really enjoyed the course. Very well maintained. Greens were extremely fast. Really liked the layout.
Great course , but can be slow play!
On the front got behind a group of 5. Was playing slow !!! Jump them on the turn and made it time .
If you are learning to play don’t come out Saturday midday !! Go out in the middle of the week and learn .
Very challenging
Course conditions were very good, but the course layout is what makes this challenging. Perfectly placed water and bunkers, tight fairways and small greens. Par 5 holes that are shaped to where you can’t tee off with a driver if you hit 270+. Very fun to play.
Local Review
Easily the best value and course quality in the Humble area. I am comparing this specifically to Tour 18 andGolf Club of Atascocita. $50 for 18, with cart, no cart path only and an actual driving range/practice green and chipping green. I will be making this my home course as a local. The member rates are very good for the quality as well.
Going from Private to Semi-Private
Its always fun to play different courses because of their layout. It simply does not allow you to bomb it on holes of length. Maybe I caught it during a period of recovering from winter. More worn out spots than I imagined from a course that was private for so many years. Fast greens are cool, they roll properly for their small size and not overly difficult. The 6 tee boxes allows for anyone to play at their level and I hope that does not change. It does seem like they have not worked to keep up the cart paths. If I remember correctly, I only saw one restroom on the entire 18 outside of the clubhouse
The course is challenging for beginners like myself. There were houses on both sides on almost all the holes which was pretty intimidating. Made me concentrate more. I will deffinately play there again when I'm in town from San Antonoio.
Smallest greens imaginable
Super tight course with the fairways deteriorating along the edges. You have to be very accurate to be in the fairway period, but several dogleg and water hazard holes require brutally accurate shots. Forget about GIRs unless you’re Scottie Scheffler, as these are the smallest greens I’ve ever seen on a regulation golf course. You could fit 3-4 of these greens on any green at Wildcat. Greens still haven’t grown back from being aerated, so good luck figuring out the bouncing path to the hole. Only one water jug on front and one on the back, so take advantage of them.
I will say that the clubhouse was real nice and on course bathrooms are SUPER and the nicest and cleanest around. All the staff were super nice too.
At $74 to play on a Sunday, I won’t be back. I’d say it’s a $40-$50 course.
Nicecourse
Good course. For a subdivision course it is not tight, major plus. Good fairways and greens conditions.
Maybe good fit for beginners or couples who may play a bit slowly.
Lots of opportunity
I heard the course is under new management. This was my first time playing. I enjoyed the course layout the most. Have to be strategic and play smart.
It took us 5 hours to complete the round on a Sunday afternoon. No carts were readily available. Had to wait for groups to finish for them to clean and reuse. No water in the two jugs available on the course. No starter to send off groups. I believe we saw a cart girl one time in the 5 hours.
The course has plenty of opportunity to be one of the best public courses. I did enjoy the round. I’m just writing so they can know where to improve. I think the price is a bit high for where the course is at currently but in the future with improvements I can see them charging that price.
Fun Round
It would have been good to know that the fairways on the front nine were aerated. This detracted from the playability of the course. But otherwise, it was a fun course to play.
Pleasant Surprise
1st time playing the course. it was fair but you really need to be able to work your ball. the House's are way to close to the fairway. I did not end up in anyone's backyard but my playmates did multiple times. This course is challenging. I will be back.
Hard as a rock
I played the course recently after seeing it online for $40. I played the course over a decade ago and did not remember much about it. I enjoyed the course layout. It has many tight fairways and small greens that require some accuracy off the tee and in your approach. Despite all these great things, the condition of the course was a little uncared for and hard as a rock. The condition of the course made the whole experience uncomfortable.
Ehh
Was nice to play a new course and they’ve opened up to the public to attract new players. Staff was great. Driving range was serviceable, I think it was the last day before they moved to fresh grass. Carts were nice, but no gps. Tee boxes were decent enough and greens were in good shape. Fairways were not in good shape. Layout was tight in the neighborhood, cart path was bad. Leave your driver at home, too much hidden water (at least for a first time player), lots of tight landing areas. And with the hard deck rolls ended up in water. Just mouthing really stood out to me.
Was glad I played, but not worth the $80
A Course on the Rise
Walden on Lake Houston is under new management, and you can definitely see the effort being put into bringing the course back. It’s a work in progress, but that’s to be expected—these kinds of upgrades take time and investment.
The layout itself is really well designed and makes for a fun and challenging round. You’ll need to think your way around the course, which keeps it interesting. The greens are in good shape and roll well, and the fairways are coming in nicely as they continue to grow and improve.
Overall, it’s great to see the direction the course is heading. With a little more time, this place has the potential to be something special again. Definitely worth getting out there and supporting the turnaround.
