St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Golfer Reviews
reliable
St Andrews always delivers good golf at a fair price
Rained out
We booked the St Andrews coarse, when we got there they switched it on us, they said it was due to a back up of 2 outings. We haven't played there is a few years due to the crazy golf cart prices. I called earlier in the week to confirm cart pricing, I was told 18.50 each per cart. When we got there the price was 20. each. Then when we got rained out , didn't even play 1 hole we couldn't get a refund only a raincheck for the cart. They just keep it on file. They don't give you any receipt or confirmation.
Despite heavy rain-great conditions
I was expecting cart path only after really heavy rains the day/night before. Pleasantly surprised when no restrictions other than an ask to stay away from any areas we see as really wet. Round played quickly. The rough wasn't as punitive as prior rounds yet still a challenge. Cut to a good length-thank you!
crazy cart fees
I really like this coarse. We used to play there a lot. Then we seen they started charging 37. for a cart. I called the previous day to check cart pricing, I was told during the week it was 18.50 When I got there I was the price went up to 24.50. The coarse was in very good shape.
The greens were very slow. They were leaving them long due to the high temperatures the previous week. The pace was great on the front, we caught up to a slow group and waited at every tee on the back.
5 Star Course!
Excellent Golf Course (s) yes two of them both well maintained for enjoyable play. The cart paths are smooth and no pot holes. The tee boxes well maintained. Fairways and Greens both perfect. Staff always very nice while helping you have a great time. Its worth the drive. You can warm up at the beautiful Driving Range pre game and grab food in a nice restaurant / bar afterwards.
Nice local course
I live a few minutes away so it’s an easy last minute decision. They moved a tee box on 6 , it’s a bit more of a challenge being an early dog leg left . Before it was Avery straight hole. Tee boxes and greens in good shape. I played as a single and was able to play through a few foursomes . Awesome
Course was a little rough because of the rain.
Pace was slow and that was on the 4 some in front of us. (NOTE: The Jemsek course was closed until 13:00 so The St. Andrews course got all the morning play)
Looks like rain results overwhelmed course maintenance. I played lift/clean/place anywhere on the course.
No cart path only which was a pleasant surprise.
All in all, St. Andrews is generally a nice course and the value is great especially when walking.
The staff is outstanding and their practice facilities are 2nd to none.
I play in a 9 hole league for 40+ years and I try to give an honest rating (though I may be somewhat biased as this is my home course.) Go play it.
Poor Course condition, layout, and management.
I just started playing at Saint Andrews golf course recently because I joined a golf league on Mondays.
I am 69 years old and an average golfer shooting around 90 on most courses
This course I have found to be a disappointment
The greens are extremely difficult with poor pin placements.
In addition, the grass is not cut often so the roof is extremely long.
There are trees, overhanging, many of the fairways, including tea boxes, which are position extremely poorly.
Yesterday, the golfers were forced to stay on cartpath only even though the day was sunny and beautiful, so the pace of play was unbelievably slow. Unless you kept the ball completely on the fairway at all times you were in trouble. Not smart management.
I found most of the management here, not very cooperative and not very friendly.
Today I quit my league here and it’s not worth my time. I would stay away from Saint Andrews like the plague.
Course conditions
The only issue that I had Was that the rough was a bit too high They could do with cutting the grass some more
Sunday round of golf
Can’t justify the price for the poor condition of the course. Why do we have to cater to the 1/2 of 1/2 of 1/2 of a percentage of people and put we/they on the scorecards. Please stop the nonsense already……
Not worth what they are charging
Good course for 65.00 not 100. Be careful rate is walking and then you have to pay again for cart
I've been playing St. Andrews for years and it was great for always finding a tee time and decent price.
Recently the pace of play been horrible. Over last 5 round have been 5+ hour rounds.
