Michaywe Pines Golf Course
About
Michaywe Pines is a scenic 18-hole golf course that winds through the birch and pine forests that sit along the AuSable River. The course opened in 1972 and 32 years later the original designer, Don Childs, came back to completely renovate the course. The classic layout kept its best features but the bunkers were reshaped and deeply shouldered with lush bluegrass sod and four sets of tee boxes were crafted for each hole. There is water in addition to the bunkers, but overall the golf course is player friendly enough for beginners. The back nine is longer than the front and you'll run into more tree-lined fairways. Michaywe Pines' 13th hole is especially tight with towering pines looming on both sides, it begins a stretch of holes where the woodland landscape becomes quite dramatic.

Not worth the money
This course is priced way too high for what we experienced. The “driving” range was limited to 150 yards, the tee boxes and greens were in bad condition, and it seems like there are no standards when it comes to expectations for guest behavior. You shouldn’t have to put out signs telling people to repair divots and pitch marks but I suggest doing so. The pace was slow and I’m not sure if it was because they packed too many groups in or because the groups around us were totally wasted but, given the constant shouting and squealing cart tires, I’d bet on the latter.
Not worth the drive or money.
This is a free for all course. You’re paying the price of a higher quality course but getting the back yard muni experience. Throughout the whole round, all you hear is screaming and squealing breaks of carts on cart paths. Apparently repairing pitch marks on greens is not a requirement. I guess we didn’t get the golf course attire memo because shoes are optional and jean shirts are a nonnegotiable. If you enjoy rolling your ball over goose poop when putting, you are in the right place. Although the greens are the color of green, it’s not the grass that’s green, it’s the goose poop.
5 guys, 3 carts….not good
No ranger. 5 some playing, got backed up…..made the day long, hot, and watched kids drive along greens, stick clubs in the fringe, classless punks….parents’ prodigies?
Challenging but fair.
I played terrible, but the course is very nice. Would play here again. Greens were very fast. Very friendly staff as well.
Good time
Friendly greeting by cashier and also starter. We were paired with Mike and Joe; they were wonderful and made my wife comfortable
Course is pretty straight away with excellent fairways and greens. Greens were quick with some break. Read most of the breaks pretty well. We played most forward tees so it played at a good distance. Plenty of opportunities for pats and a few birdie attempts
We played 18 in right around 4 hours
Slowest course ever
They try to pack so many players in. Every 5 minutes someone is teeing off. So far this year I have been there on 5 separate occasions where there were 8 carts waiting to tee off at one hole. I understand some days are slower than other but this course is the slowest course I’ve ever played, it does not matter when. This is the last year I’ll be playing there.
The Pines
The course is in great condition for early in the year still, love what they did with green side bunkers and flatting them out, it has been a couple years since I played it.
Poor Staff
Went on a golf trip with a group of 8. Clubhouse was amazing greens were fast and true. Fairways were very soft. The course condition was pristine for the rate. Except the rate only allowed for playing the Front 9 TWICE. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH STAFF- Once done teeing off on the 10th hole and approaching the green, we were asked by staff to leave the 10th hole and go back to the clubhouse and wait for a group of 16 to tee off in front of us because we were “taking too long” at the turn. The course was clear in front of us. The tee box had been empty the entire time so there wasn’t anybody waiting for us. I understand pace of play but this was just ridiculous. We couldn’t have been at the clubhouse for anymore than 10 minutes. If there was an issue STAFF should have came out to push us along. But instead they pulled us off the back 9 and made us play the front again. Terrible management, unfortunately will never go back again.
Awesome golf and people
The golf course always seems to be in great shape regardless the time of year. Greens are smooth and roll true, and there are plenty of holes out there that are a great test.
