Pebble Beach Golf Links has been good - no, great - to the Golf Advisor staff in 2019.
In February, Kira Kazantsev, the host of Golf Advisor Living, made the cut in her very first AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, getting plenty of air time on the telecast with partner Alfonso Ribeiro. In May, Managing Editor Brandon Tucker and Senior Staff Writer Jason Scott Deegan played in the U.S. Open media day preview. Tucker came away impressed after his first-ever round on the famed layout. A month later, Deegan spent the U.S. Open weekend in June prowling the fairways for Gary Woodland's dramatic victory.
But Matt Ginella's win with partner Ribeiro in the Pro-Am division of the Pure Insurance Championship Sept. 29 proved to be the highlight. The PGA Tour Champions event benefits The First Tee. Ginella, the host of Golf Advisor Round Trip on Golf Channel, grew up in Northern California a couple hours north of the Monterey Peninsula, making the accomplishment even more memorable.
Playing in a pro-am is a dream come true for most of us. Winning it - especially at Pebble Beach - seems almost too good to be true. Ginella talks about the experience on Morning Drive.
