By now, we've all teed it up probably a half dozen times in 2025.
We're starting to get a feel for how the season might go. Maybe you've started out of the gate fast, feeling confident and ready for the #bestsummereva ...
Or maybe you start slowly every year, shaking off the rust one round at a time. Whatever the case, you should have evaluated the state of your game, especially from the shopping perspective. How many new shirts do I need? What new shoes will get me through the summer? What club just absolutely has to be replaced?
These questions are rattling around in our brains, too, just as they are yours. We've been testing the latest and greatest polos, putters and pitching wedges to help you pick your next purchase. Here's our May GolfPass Gear Report to help you decide:
Mini-review: PXG's latest torque-balanced putter

After rolling out its first alternative-balance putter, the ALLAN (named for founder Bob Parsons' late brother) in 2024, PXG has expanded its ZT (Zero Torque) line with a new Bat Attack model. Bat Attack is a familiar head design to golfers: it's a high-MOI dual-wing mallet that just about every company that makes putters offers as a mallet option (think Odyssey #7, Scotty Cameron Phantom 7, PING Tyne, etc.).
To me, the Bat Attack represents a nice step forward in PXG's adventures in alternative-balance putters. The familiar head design integrates better with the unconventional hosel design and position, making it the most "normal"-looking putter of its genre that I have encountered. Feel-wise, it is adequate, with a slightly blocky feel and sound, though those traits are well in line with its competition (feel is one of the compromises that most mallet putters require golfers to make). Another clever new feature is a standard grip with built-in offset, which helps the putter sit comfortably at address and mitigates most aesthetic awkwardness. If you're curious about alternative-balance putters but are put off by the looks of most of them, PXG's Bat Attack ZT putter is a great option. - Tim Gavrich

Sun Day Red Carolina Collection

With its latest release, Sun Day Red pivots away from the color that won Tiger so many majors to a softer hue. Inspired by that TarHeel blue, the Carolina Collection features a palette of cool blues, rich mint greens and crisp whites. Karl Vilips wore several key pieces at the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Club. The premium polos are engineered for variable spring conditions, that have been scripted with performance layers that adapt throughout the day, and technically advanced bottoms that provide comfort from morning dew to afternoon heat. The Cypress Ax Thrower polo wears extra soft. I took the sharp-looking, all-white Pioneer Cypress shoes for a spin around my home course, enjoying every step in their comfort and style. Premium accessories from Vessel are also part of the collection, including synthetic leather golf bags, headcovers and more. - Jason Scott Deegan

Shot Scope PRO X rangefinder

This new rangefinder has all the capabilities of a high-end rangefinder for only $199. The real hook, though, is the chance to customize the unit with a logo or image. The PRO X could be the perfect gift for member-guest events or tournament prize packages. The PRO X is equipped with adaptive slope technology, rapid-fire detection and target-lock vibration, providing exact distances from 800 yards. It's water resistant, and the built-in cart magnet and travel case make use and storage easy. - JSD

Devereux Golf “Pro Shop Essentials” Collection

Devereux Golf fashions can veer too bold for me at times, but the new Summer 2025 “Pro Shop Essentials” Collection walks the line perfectly, looking good without going out of bounds. The Checkmate polo is available in sand and light blue. The Vintage 1998 polo keeps it simple with a white background crisscrossed by bold black lines. Both will make sure you stand out in your foursome with sticking out. The soft, breathable tri-blend (poly/cotton/spandex) fabric is designed for all-day performance. - JSD
