The Cabot Collection, the Canadian-based developer of golf courses and resorts, has made an investment in Lofoten Links, a stunning seaside layout in remote Gimsøysand, Norway.
Located some 800 miles north of the capital city of Oslo, Lofoten Links is one of the world's northernmost golf courses, sitting inside the Arctic Circle. Its short season affords it near-24-hour daylight mid-May through late-July every summer. Ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the world by some publications, it was originally laid out in 1998 by architect Jeremy Turner, who returned to update the course in 2009. The 151-yard par-3 2nd hole, with its green on a natural volcanic island stretching into the Norwegian Sea, is one of the most-photographed holes in the world. Half a dozen other holes touch the rocky coastline. One of the world's remotest places to play, Lofoten has become a pilgrimage site for adventurous golfers who typically fly from Oslo or other cities into the town of Evenes, three hours east of Gimsøysand.
In addition to its golf course Lofoten has a group of three-bedroom Nordic-style lodges where visitors can stay.
"We are thrilled to join forces with Lofoten Links, a spectacular property that effortlessly aligns with our vision of delivering world-class golf and experiences across the globe’s most remarkable destinations," said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of The Cabot Collection. "General Manager Frode Hov is a true visionary, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of this extraordinary site.”
Cabot's investment in Lofoten comes just weeks after the company announced its purchase of Golf du Medoc, a resort in Bordeaux, France, rechristening it Cabot Bordeaux. The property's two golf courses were designed by Bill Coore and Rod Whitman, respectively - two architects who have been heavily involved in Cabot's other holdings, including its original resort in Nova Scotia.
