After suplexing the field at Royal Portrush to win the 2025 Open Championship for his fourth major championship title, Scottie Scheffler is now a U.S. Open away from the career Grand Slam, which he could secure in epic fashion on his 30th birthday with a win at Shinnecock Hills in next June's 2026 U.S. Open.
As clinical as his Open triumph was, does anyone seriously doubt his chances?
At 29 years old, Scheffler has emerged as the dominant player in professional golf in the last two and a half years, combining some of the best approach play since the peak Tiger Woods Era with tremendous touch around the green. He has even started to command pre-tournament betting odds closer to even-money than anyone since Tiger.
Scheffler's putting, which was previously streaky at best and often a borderline liability, now looks to be a genuine asset thanks the help of instructor Phil Kenyon. In the meantime, Scheffler has continued to seize ownership of his full swing with Randy Smith, who has been his only main teacher, working with him since the age of seven.
GolfPass has tracked Scheffler's progress since before his maiden PGA Tour win, spending time both with the now-four-time major champion in person and focusing on his prodigious talent in several tips. For any golfer who is interested in learning from the current world #1, we bring you these four videos, ranging from a 2-minute drill to a 22-minute deep dive.
Swing Expedition: Scottie Scheffler and Randy Smith
Filmed in 2021, before Scheffler's first PGA Tour win, Chris Como visited with the then-prospect and his longtime coach Randy Smith. Smith deserves considerable credit for resisting any urge to change Scheffler's unorthodox footwork into something more static and conventional.
The Golf Fix: Scheffler's swing 'fallacy'
In this episode of The Golf Fix, host Devan Bonebrake analyzes Scheffler's golf swing, filmed at the 2022 U.S. Open, to explain why his footwork makes him such an effective ball-striker.
School of Golf: Seeking Scottie's plane
Footwork is far from the only noteworthy aspect of Scheffler's golf swing, though. In this episode of School of Golf, Martin Hall and Blair O'Neal show you what you can learn from the angles Scheffler creates in his swing.
Scheffler's backswing drill
In this brief Daily Video Tip from Chris Como's Swing Expedition visit, Scheffler and Smith discuss one of the most important drills golfers can try in order to find the correct position at the top of the backswing. All that is required is a golf club and a pencil.
