Unlimited golf, strong dollar make 2016 a great year for a Prince Edward Island golf vacation

One of the main appeals to Prince Edward Island is its timelessness: A storybook, maritime countryside sprinkled with a pleasant population that feels so pleasantly oblivious to the many complications of modern-day life.

But this summer is a particularly good time to plan a Prince Edward Island golf trip.

A strong U.S. dollar ($1 USD to .79 CAN) means tremendous value can be found on fairways from coast-to-coast. But what sets the destination apart from other eastern Canada golf destinations is an extraordinary selection of courses, within a very close proximity of one another at an unbeatable value. It's a favorite destination for Canadian city-dwellers starved for peace and quiet. But it's allure to the U.S. crowd is strong as well, especially when the currency exchange rate is in Uncle Sam's favor.

P.E.I. is small, but packs a pound-for-pound golf punch as strong as any destination in North America. Golfers have more than 400 holes to play all within 45 minutes of one another, meaning repeat trips always offer a new course to play.

Not only is the selection of golf, if you choose, it's also unlimited. There are a variety of unlimited golf packages available at most courses throughout the summer, when long days mean a whole lot of holes to play.

This year, golfers can book a 7-night, $999 CAN unlimited golf package (currently $786 USD) that includes golf at four of the top courses on the island, including The Links at Crowbush Cove and Dundarave while staying at one of 5 Rodd Resort properties. Two course unlimited packages can also include Stanley Thompson's classic Green Gables Golf Club, one of his prized National Parks courses of Canada and Anderson's Creek or pair Eagles Glenn with Les Furber's Glasgow Hills with its challenging undulations and spectacular views for another unforgettable week of golfing on PEI. Spacious villa or cottage accommodations purpose-built for golf groups are included along with all the golf you can handle. Five-, three- and two-night packages are also available, or groups can build a custom itinerary.

And long days on the golf course mean working up quite an appetite for a lobster supper or other great meals somewhere in Charlottetown, Cavendish or wherever your group may be. No one goes hungry after a full day of golf on P.E.I.
