Low expectations, Over delivered
Coming from Scottsdale, AZ and playing in the Southern Pines area a lot I did not expect much from this course in my dad’s hometown. Was such a great time here for the value and truly enjoyed the layout of the course. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Greens were rolling slow but true at this time due to the rain this last week but the head pro Colby was confident that they’d be rolling well into Fall/Winter. Able to use every club on this course. Would definitely recommend if in the area!
Not a long course. But a good course to use all your clubs. Will play again
Fun course
We did not have high expectations but this course really surprised us. $35 was an outstanding price for this nice course. Tee boxes were fair but who cares when you're teeing it up. Fairways were good and they do not skimp on keeping them watered. Sand traps were average. But the greens were absolutely beautiful. The were not overly quick but rolled very true. And VERY green. Staff very friendly. Well worth playing. One negative-don't drink the water in the coolers on the course.
Great course well worth the money!
The course was amazing and the staff were even better! They were doing some work on the greens that day but the staff was very forward and apologetic about the situation. We played the back 9 first and we were worried that the pace of play would be affected whenever they decided to switch people back to starting on the front 9. However, this was not the case and they did a wonderful job spacing people out and being very helpful. The course in it self is amazing. The only reason it got a 4 on course conditions is because they were doing work on the greens HOWEVER I’m sure this is not the case 99% of the time and it is an absolutely stunning course. 10/10 recommend especially for the price.
A lot of potential
The greens were in very rough shape, bunkers were pretty in need of TLC, and the fairways loss the battle of weed control. The staff was great and I love the layout of the course.
Needs a lot of work
Love this course layout, but needs much attention. The super old, slow foursome eventually let US play through, but the greens and beat up fairways still caused a lot of frustration. World play again, but only for less than $20. Get the course back to a decent play stature and I’ll come back again. Liked the staff’s friendliness!
Course is in great shape
The bent grass greens are currently in fantastic shape and rolling fast and smoothly. The course has made a big turnaround since last summer and you can tell that the staff has worked really hard, especially with the greens. Pace of play is very fast, the staff is extremely friendly and it’s a great value relative to other courses in the area. The front nine was designed by Donald Ross and the turtle back greens are challenging to hold. This is an under the radar gem.
Nice layout
The course was just ok. Greens were slow and patchy. Fairways are very narrow, although we did like the layout
Good value
Staff was pleasant, initially was a single ended up joining 3 ladies that started on hole 5 and needed to play the last 4 holes. Then joined a 3 some on hole 6 as I still had 4 4somes in front. They only played 9 holes. Caught up to a twosome in front and joined them for last 6 holes. So met several new folks. Course layout was nice grass was a bit high greens had several area on most that were really rough and slow but rolled pretty true. If I am in the area I would play again but would not drive almost 2 hours to play again.
Challenging Test. Great Value
Scotch Meadows is one the best values for the price in the entire state of North Carolina. Well Maintained and very hospitable. Very challenging layout off the Tee, must be able to work the ball both ways. Only pushback is a couple of patchy greens on the front, but it’s August so it’s understandable. Tough Track. Great bang for your buck
Conditions ok
Course is located in sandhills area of the state hence there will and are issues with sandy bare spots along the cart paths and some in the fairways. Not a big problem. Deal with it. Overall the course is nice. Greens rolled true but slower than I'm use to. It's over 2 hours away from me, but halfway for my buddy to meet me to play. Bunkers were very shallow. More fine dirt than sand. Chipping worked better than blasting out of traps.
I’ll be back
First time playing Scotch Meadows. We drove an hour. We played on a wet day, but the greens were in great shape and rolling true. We played the white tees and really enjoyed our round. There are a lot of scoring opportunities, I just didn’t capitalize 😂 we will be back.
