Nice country course with hills, water hazards and extremely friendly
Pros
Water
Hills
Greens in good condition
New golf carts
Friendly atmosphere
Good value refreshments
Cons
Fairways on several holes in poor condition - but they are trying to repair
Very busy on weekends and it does attract hackers
Overall
Great value for money and I recommend
Fairways need attention
Good course lay out. Greens are in good shape. Fairways need a lot of attention. Can't tell the difference between fairway and rough.
much improved!
New management has done a great job improving the grounds. The fairways and greens might be in the best condition I've seen in years at this course. I believe its the best value for your buck. Sure, there are better courses around but Lake Winds is the best in the area under $30. Quiet with beautiful scenery with elevation, lakes and ponds.
Great elevation changes
If you want a good experience and don't want to pay a ton, this is the place. We played for $15 each on a Sunday afternoon. Hard to beat that price. The greens were in decent shape, and rolled pretty true. Course was very firm from lack of rain. Some areas without grass, but again, for the money, you can't beat it. Lot's of elevation changes throughout.
staffs are very kind
The Golf course is very clean and coure difficulty is good.
So, I want to recommand this place to my friends.
Ideal for residents, not for avid golfers looking to experience a new course. .
The older gentlemen in the pro shop was very, very rude to me. Before I could say hello, he was quick to tell me that anyone not playing but wants to ride has to pay $8. (Huh?). So if your looking to play this course with your wife, or children be prepared to navigate extra funds. Seriously, I don't consider myself picky when it comes to where I play golf, but this course is ridiculous. I honestly felt as if someone had an extra 45 acres behind their house and decided to try and make some money by putting some greens on it. There is no difference between the fairway and rough (the entire course looks the same besides the greens). There are no obstacles outside of plants, with only a handful of very small sand bunkers. Cart paths would randomly disappear, leaving you to drive wherever you want. On most of the greens, any putts over about 5 feet and you can see your ball bounce. This course may be worth it if it only cost a dollar a hole to play, but I feel like I can go to WAY better courses for the same price, and much closer to Raleigh.
wonderful greens and challenging course
well maintained greens, not too many bunkers but they make up for it with the water hazards
A good solid course
A good mix of up and down, long and short. Fairways are fairly wide and there is some water to play with. Offers enough challenge, variety and length for the better players, but still fair to the beginning intermediate players. Remember to bring your own snacks. Some long waits (in the shade) on a few holes on a Sunday afternoon, but generally moves along.
My hidden treasure
This course is in the middle of nowhere. I found this by just browsing through golf now courses near Durham, NC. This course has become my new favorite for a few simple reasons: secluded, friendly staff, great course, and literally play when you want at your pace. Being that I am an average golfer and I like going really early. I can go to the course whether by myself or with a friend and get on the course right away and hardly wait on people. It is always a great time when I go to Lake Winds. The course is suprisingly nice and well kept for being randomly located by a small housing district. I always introduce my friends to this course and they all love it.
