Well maintained
Well maintained removed all the falling leaves and the place looked great for Nov. Needs better yard markers
Good Park stands the test of time
Nothing fancy about this course; keep the ball between the trees and below the hole, if you can. Course was in great condition for mid-October. Staff was helpful. A must-play in NE Ohio!
The Park
Grew up playing this course located in West Akron. The course is still in fairway and greens are still in great shape, however noticed that in some areas in the rough around the greens that patches of grass have died. Overall, for a municipal course it is in great shape and a good challenge for any golfer from either the middle or back tees.
A happy surprise
Heard about this course from a friend and gave it a shot. What a great surprise. Very tight, well-maintained course requiring careful 2nd shot planning. More doglegs than a kennel. Greens were unexpectedly fast for a muni course. Overall, a very happy experience, and one I hope to repeat.
What happened?
The course was in terrible condition fairways are trashed especially around the greens. Play was incredibly slow and a course ranger was nowhere to be seen. Seem to us like they stop watering the course I understand we had a lot of rain earlier in the season but why do you let your grass die from lack of water? Why do I say lack of water? , because the entire course was hard as a rock.
Good course
I enjoyed the course. Not an avid golfer. Course is narrow and a lot of trees. Pace of play was slow. Was actually early for our tee time but had to wait to tee off 2 foursomes deep in front of us. I was also in a foursome. Overall a good looking course would give it 3 1/2 stars if possible versus a 3. Would go back again if I can get a hot deal price. Thanks
Beautiful Ohio Golf
Good Park is a classic and really fun to play. It is long and tight with huge trees. Greens were in perfect shape. Fairways and rough were immaculate. For a municipal course what more could you want? This is also a really tough course. Many challenging holes that will test even the expert's game. Love this place and I would recommend it to anyone in the area.
Course good, staff bad
Played the course multiple times over the years, course itself is in good condition, fairly challenging, and usually a good value. However this last visit when we made the turn, we were in the club house getting a snack, we weren't in there more than 4 minutes when a staff member essentially told us we had to get to the 10th tee box. I politely informed him that the 4 some in front of me had just left the club house not 2 minutes prior, and all I wanted to do was finish my hot dog real quick. He turned around and very sarcastically said, "I'm trying to run a golf course here" and walked away. Offended, I got up, finished my hot dog in the kart, drove to 10 tee box, and proceeded to wait 7 minutes before I could even tee off. I've been golfing for over 20 years, I play at a good pace, I never dilly dally around, and I know how to play efficiently. For me, the experience I have is just as important as the quality of the course, so with that being said I will not be playing Good Park again, and I will not recommend it to any friends or family members.
Nice course
moderately fast and firm greens, tight tree-lined fairways and in great condition. There are long par 4's throughout so bring your A game.
Great, challenging layout
Every tee box needed some work/cut grass. Other than that, Goodpark is ALWAYS one of the best places to play in northeast Ohio.
Old School Course In Great Shape
I could see Good Park from I-77 and drove by for years without playing it. I had heard good things about it. Well, I finally played it and regret that it took me this long.
I could tell quickly why this course has hosted amateur tournaments. If you're hitting it well, you can score. If you start spraying the ball, you will be punching out all day long. It's an old school style with lots of big, mature trees.
The course was in terrific shape. What little I saw of the fairways were perfect to hit from. The greens rolled beautifully. We had heavy rain the night before, but I had trouble finding my ball mark on the green to repair it.
Course knowledge could save some strokes, so I'm hoping to play it again soon.
great course a must play
course was in super condition . they have cut down many trees the course is actually much easier now yea right . practice green was a little faster then the actual greens but overall condition was fantastic and i have been playing here on and off for 21 years . it is a must play ..
love this course
Mini Firestone. This course is tough. Long holes and tight fairways. If you don't hit it straight you will be playing from under a tree all day long.
Great track!
A really nice track. Tree lined fairways make this short course quit the challenge. Greens roll true. As usual in Ohio the bunkers weren't in great shape. I'm always amazed by this as there weren't tons of bunkers, get a wrack and and edger or fill in the bunkers. Anyhow, it's a great track that I will play again.
condition of coursea
last year that was big issues on the course such as greens severely damaged As well as the fairways, this year there is a great improvement
Good course, management needs work
This mature course is one of the most challenging in the area with tree lined fairways giving you a headache if you hit into them. I enjoy the challenge each year and typically have a great time. Only disappointment - no driving range.
However, this time, the pace of play was abysmal. The staff sent out a 5-some in front of everyone, which caused delays on every hole. Also, the bunkers were not raked that morning. It appeared the staff just did not care that day.
One other issue - GolfNow posted a price of $35/round, but they only charged me $25/round. Kudos to Good Park!
Leafy Day
What else can one expect on an Indian Summer afternoon, losing balls in the middle of the fairway, as no staff would be able to remove leaves as quickly as they fall.
The course held to its policy that no electric golf carts are allowed to leave the club after 3 PM.
One of the best courses in Summit County
I've been playing Good Park for 58 years. I was disappointed when I played it this April....greens still showed aeration marks and
rough was suitable for US Open. Also, given the conditions, I was also not happy paying $45 to ride 18 on a Saturday. My experience playing on 10/21 & 10/28 was much different. The course is in exceptional shape for fall....greens are excellent and
rough is fair for amateurs. And to get to play this fine a course for
reduced Golf Now.Com rates is a bonus. To emphasize how much
I like Good Park, my family has instructions to scatter my ashes in the sand trap on #14 when I'm a goner!!!
Not a killer, but it does demand respect! Just wonderful!
I first played the course in 1953 and it is still one of my favorites; long and really pretty. The course is well maintained and I find a round there to be very relaxing even when it is eating me up. A person just has to stay out of the trees and understand that the average golfer is not going to reach some of the greens in regulation. It is really a very nice course. I love it even though as I stand on the first tee looking down the fairway I always wonder why I am doing this to myself! Do I recommend it? You betcha!
