J. E. Good Park Golf Course

A really nice track. Tree lined fairways make this short course quit the challenge. Greens roll true. As usual in Ohio the bunkers weren't in great shape. I'm always amazed by this as there weren't tons of bunkers, get a wrack and and edger or fill in the bunkers. Anyhow, it's a great track that I will play again.

This mature course is one of the most challenging in the area with tree lined fairways giving you a headache if you hit into them. I enjoy the challenge each year and typically have a great time. Only disappointment - no driving range.

However, this time, the pace of play was abysmal. The staff sent out a 5-some in front of everyone, which caused delays on every hole. Also, the bunkers were not raked that morning. It appeared the staff just did not care that day.

One other issue - GolfNow posted a price of $35/round, but they only charged me $25/round. Kudos to Good Park!

Nice course...not overly difficult,especially for the weekend golfer...highly recommend this course.

What else can one expect on an Indian Summer afternoon, losing balls in the middle of the fairway, as no staff would be able to remove leaves as quickly as they fall.
The course held to its policy that no electric golf carts are allowed to leave the club after 3 PM.

I've been playing Good Park for 58 years. I was disappointed when I played it this April....greens still showed aeration marks and
rough was suitable for US Open. Also, given the conditions, I was also not happy paying $45 to ride 18 on a Saturday. My experience playing on 10/21 & 10/28 was much different. The course is in exceptional shape for fall....greens are excellent and
rough is fair for amateurs. And to get to play this fine a course for
reduced Golf Now.Com rates is a bonus. To emphasize how much
I like Good Park, my family has instructions to scatter my ashes in the sand trap on #14 when I'm a goner!!!

I first played the course in 1953 and it is still one of my favorites; long and really pretty. The course is well maintained and I find a round there to be very relaxing even when it is eating me up. A person just has to stay out of the trees and understand that the average golfer is not going to reach some of the greens in regulation. It is really a very nice course. I love it even though as I stand on the first tee looking down the fairway I always wonder why I am doing this to myself! Do I recommend it? You betcha!

Course was in great shape; service was excellent. It was a superb value for the money!!

Nice layout and beautifully maintained. First time playing here, but we will return many times. Good homemade food at the snack bar as well.

Good Park is a decent layout with some challenges. My only problem with my round was the lack of a starter and management of groups. I got sent out as a single, but saw singles all over the course jumping around. I ran into a couple groups who weren't really willing to let me play through, including a group of 5 I was behind for two entire holes waiting to hit shots. Holes could have been better marked, also. With it being my first time playing, I had a couple holes where I had a hard time finding the next. There were some areas of the course that could have used attention, but for this time of the year it wasn't in bad shape.

The greens were inconsistent and slow, and because there are so many trees finding your ball in the leaves was nearly impossible. The uncut rough and the large quantity of the leaves contributed to a very slow round for everybody.

Hadn't been on the back 9 in years. Didn't remember a thing about it. It was like playing a brand new course for the first time.

We loved this golf course, if you are a good ball striker you'll love this course, if you hit into the trees, well sorry you are in for a Very -l o n g day

Tight wooded fairways make this a challenge he if you don't hit it straight. Good course with good conditions

The fairways are full of mud spots with no grass. An elderly african american man that is the starter there has been rude every time I have been there. He said we can not play in a 2-some when the course was wide open, but he let a group of 5 out before us. He claimed that no courses in the area let 2-somes play, but yet he lets a group of 5 out before us. Then has the audacity to say "You must have never golfed in NE Ohio before" I have been playing golf in NE Ohio for 15 years and worked at multiple courses in the area for the past 8 years and I have never heard such bull**** come out of a starters mouth in my entire life. He tried telling me that I can not play 2 balls off the first tee a different time I went even if I hit my first one out of bounds because I will hold up play. (I was playing alone). And I had to wait close to 10 minutes to even hit my second shot anyways because of the senior couple ahead of me. I tried reasoning with him but all he did was drive away in his cart when I tried to respond. JE goodpark knows absolutely nothing about customer service. They have no idea how to treat their customers or how a golf course should be ran. The only good thing I can say about the course is that the woman working at the turn was very friendly and helpful. The old starter needs to take some tips from her with how to treat his customers.

I'll break my review into two parts: Pros and and Cons...

PROS:
- Very playable golf course. It had plenty of challenges, but you didn't feel like one bad shot would cause you to lose a ball and take a drop. Often when a ball went awry, I was able to play it.
- Easy for novices. The greens stay relatively flat throughout the course, but offer enough changes in elevation to have some toughness
- Staff were very courteous. No hassles at all with them and was even able to tee off early
- Course uses electric carts, which is very nice since theyre quiet and easy to maneuver around
- Elevation changes throughout the course add enough of a challenge, but do not make things overly difficult to play

CONS:
- While I liked that there wasn't a great amount of challenge to the course, it at times felt too bland. No real hazards like water to deal with other than your normal trees and sand traps. Only on a few occasions did I feel that the placement of the bunkers or some trees keep me from making certain shots
- A few of the par 4's should be listed as par 5s, in my opinion. For example, a 440y hole is a par 5, but one thats 10 yards shorter is a par 4.
- While my 2-some was able to comfortably golf at our own pace, by the time we got half way through we had caught up to a 5-some that were playing excruciatingly slow, causing us to have to sometimes sit for 10 minutes waiting for them to clear.

One thing to note: around hole 14 we were stuck out on the course in a torrential downpour, adding to the total time of the round. Had we not encountered the rain or the slow 5-some, we would have been able to easily finish our round in 4 hours.

Overall, I would still recommend this course to friends. It was a lot of fun to play here. HOWEVER, I don't feel this course is worth the money I paid. For slightly more money I am able to play at truly scenic and challenging courses. For a muni course, it was good, but for what I experienced I would have expected normal rates to be on par with the discounted price I got through GolfNow.

Good Park is a traditional parkland golf course that tests your ability to effectively position your golf shots. Nearly every hole is tree-lined, and most par 4s and 5s are doglegs. Well-paced tee shots and reasonably accurate approach shots will be needed to score well. The greens have moderate slopes, mainly back to front, which make downhill putts a challenge best avoided. The fairways were not in their usual good shape, but the greens were excellent. It's one of my favorite courses in the Akron area, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a traditional and strategic parkland golf course.

This was my first tee time with GolfNow and I will say I'm glad I paid $30 for a round on Sunday, vice the $45 it would have cost me at the course. The things I liked were the greens and the fact they didn't charge me to have my 11 yo daughter ride with me, most courses do. I didn't like the fact they had a minimum $10 charge to use a credit card, I never have cash so this was very inconvenient. The course is heavily lined with trees which caused some back up as players are constantly looking for their tee shots. If you don't hit straight, your in for a tough day. The back nine are more enjoyable as it opens up quite a bit. Fairways could use some work with dead spots, but greens were in good shape. Overall decent play for $30, but not more.

My tee time was at 1:25pm on a Saturday. We were following the last foursome of an outing that was taking place. The foursome in front of us were beginner golfers at best and inebriated. To make matters worse, their two female friends were driving a "beverage" cart and followed this foursome around like puppy dogs and they were very drunk and it was obviously their first time on a golf course. VERY FRUSTRATING ROUND OF GOLF!!!!!

G. Park is a moderate to difficult challenge for 19 handicappers.
Front 9 requires accuracy due to doglegs and mature trees that tend to narrow fairways. Balls on the wrong side of some fairways can still result in an obstructed approach. You have a bit more room on the back 9. Greens and fairways were in nice shape and pace of play for twosome was 4 hrs. with noon tee time. Excellent value ($15) using Golfnow.
