Decent Day
Second time back at Beaver Brook this year after swearing it off many years ago. It is definitely worth playing, but this experience wasn't quite as smooth as the first.
First off, pace of play was not nearly as good as the last time I was there. The starter put two groups on the first tee at a time, I guess so they were ready to go. That didn't do anything for pace, though. Once the groups are out, you have to stay on top of them. He was rushing everyone out and actually told us to hit when the group in front of us was only about 250 yards out. All four of us are fairly long hitters so we waited, and the starter got snippy with us. That turned me off right away. Of course, we never saw a single ranger on the course the entire day. That's where you solve pace of play issues, not by rushing people out.
The course conditions were very good, with the exception of the bunkers. They looked like dirt or concrete depending on the individual bunker. Luckily I was only in one all day. The tees, fairways and greens were great, which is most important. Greens were rolling quick and there were some nasty pin placements. You have to hit quality iron shots to score at Beaver Brook, otherwise you will struggle on the greens.
I'd go back, but it wasn't a fantastic experience this time around.
Run Down, Beat up ,needs tons of work
I thought the wheels on the cart were going to fall off(seriously).
This course spends ZERO ! Money to keep up with the maintenance.
-Sands Traps.....um, what Sand ? You are hitting out of a cement bunker !
- bare spots of hard dirt (in the fairway)
- If this course were a Dog, I’d have it put down.....
Time to sell to someone that will maintain it.
Anymore than $35 for this course, you got ripped off.
Saturday Morning Golf
Tee boxes, fairways and greens in excellent shape. Pace of play early in the morning very good. Sand traps need sand and golf carts need to be upgraded. Challenging layout. Worth playing.
VG Day at Beaver Brook GC
Overcast & cool day with rain expected-- turned out to be a great weather day with no rain, only a cool breeze mostly and not as wet as expected. Challenging course for first time player. More knowledge of layout will help even mediocre players but not always forgiving. Fun day.
Been Golfing Here For 5 Yrs Now........
I drive from Staten Island ( 100 mile round trip) to play this course. I average about 20 rounds a season here. The maintanence on this course is really second to none. The tee boxes, fairways & greens are well maintained. The greens are rolled at least every other week & a die hard golfer can tell a frequent rolled green ( hence the consistent 3 putting on my part !!! LOL).
Only negative is they are WAAAY past due on new golf carts.
9/30 Round At Beaver Brook
Beaver Brook is in excellent shape. Layout and diverse couture of course make for challenging play. Staff is very friend and I like seeing rangers periodically to keep the course of play within 4 and half hours. Book through Golf Now and price is a good value. Only negative is they need to upgrade the golf carts. Highly recommend.
Beaver briok
Very scenic well groomed course with great challenges at each hole! Fun course to play!
Great Course, Fast Greens
Loved the layout. Great condition and the greens were fast. Very friendly staff. Will play there again.
Rude playing partners
First off let me prefix this by saying I play this course somewhat often, maybe three times per month and this is not a regular occurrence but I had A very poor golfing experience due to A rude couple with poor golf etiquette and attitude towards others. This couple is middle-aged and live in one of the houses that are basically on the course so I don't know if they feel that they have some sort of entitlement or right to act this way but as I said it resulted in a very poor experience and honestly has me questioning if I would even like to play here again. I booked as a single and was paired with this couple and another single whom which I rode with. Before the issues began the male half of the couple boasted that he was a 4 handicap when really he might be a 12 and still he insisted on playing from the back tees even when his best drive was 240 yards so yes he was one of those guys. The issue started at the turn when we all went in for a bathroom break and a drink. As I was buying a drink the cashier asked the woman how the round was going, she said, very rudely, slow and the cashier said She was sorry and the woman replied by very rudely saying ugh it's our playing partners. Now mind you we were on pace for a three hour and 45 minute round at this point. Now this is the couple in which the male was hitting approaches with a 3wood every other par 4 and they were both putting like it was for the U.S. Open. The gentleman I rode with was older and was just getting over a back injury so he played from the front tees with the woman and every decent shot she hit she boasted and bragged as if to put the man down. I could tell he was sort of surprised that she would do this but he was a better man than me about it and continued to play nights where as I decided I would rather try and tune them out as if we weren't playing with them.
If you decide to play here be wary of the incredibly rude pro wannabe couple, I believe that the husbands name is Kevin but I could be wrong.
Beautiful green. Will go back again
Love the greens and not too crowded on weekdays.
The weather was great.
Ownership must be having money issues
Greens, fairways, tees and roughs were in great shape. The bunkers however look like they have been neglected for several years. There was all mostly mud with no sand in them and they were all full of stones. Luckily I was only in 2 green side bunkers and had to play very defensively to make sure I didn't blade the ball clear across the green. It it wasn't for the bunkers, I would have rated the course conditions a "5" and the bunkers are the only reason for my overall rating of "3"
Pleasantly Surprised
Hadn't played Beaver Brook in many years. I had "blacklisted" it in my own mind after my last experience there (probably around 2010-12 time period) due to poor pace of play and course conditions. A family member convinced me to give it another shot and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the round.
The pro shop attendant and starter were very welcoming and friendly, which set a nice tone. The place was wide open, hardly any times were booked. That was surprising and a little concerning, but after playing the course I can't see why more people don't play there. It was in good shape and the greens were even better. They ran at a good speed and were true and smooth. The layout is interesting, filled with severely sloped greens and elevation changes. There are a few very good holes but also some that didn't quite suit my eye (especially on the back 9).
That said, it was a good experience. I will definitely be back. I hope they can fill the tee sheet up some more for their own sake. Can't see how they stay in business with only a few groups playing on a given day.
Great condition
Wonderful layout, good pace, good condition! A great experience
Tee times always available
If you play early they have no one in the kitchen to make breakfast sandwiches till about 10:00. At least have buttered rolls or bagels. Bunkers are loaded with stones and pebbles.
