Nice Friendly Course
The course was making some improvements and removing some trees. However, this did not hurt the golf play. Some holes required certain shots to be made. This just made the course slightly challenging. A Good Time was had!
Improving
Some fairways and tee boxes still need lots of "TLC".
Nevertheless I must say that a tremendous improvement has occurred in pretty much in all the greens.
I was pleasantly surprised .
Haven’t played here in a long time
I was reading the reviews and decided to give it another try. Haven’t played here in 7-8 years. I was pleasantly surprised the greens had been aerated about 2 weeks ago but were in good shape and getting better. I’m really glad that the new management is doing a great job bringing this course back from the dead and a big shoutout to the head greens keeper and his staff. I will definitely be back soon
Rebirth in Hackettstown
Minebrook is now Rock Ridge GC. I avoided playing this track for a couple of years because the owners had let conditions slip badly. I heard through the grapevine that new ownership has been working hard to bring this course back from the brink. I'm glad I gave them a 2nd look. conditions were very playable. The greens were especially notable as being in good shape. Is the course perfect? Absolutely not. Tee boxes need work as does most of the fairways; very weedy. I am impressed with the progress the new owners have made in relatively short order. If they continue to make improvements, Rock Ridge will be on everyone's radar.
Keeps getting better
Since the change ownership you can see all the improvements to the course. Long gone is the crab grass on the greens. The transformation has been impressive in a short period of time. Thank you for your hard work
Robbery
Absolutely the worst golf experience I’ve had all summer. Showed up after driving an hour for them to tell me the front 9 was closed, and the entire back 9 was aerated. AFTER I PAID. The fairways are thicker than my front lawn, and the greens are terrible. 0 upkeep on the pace of play, got stuck behind 2 groups of 4 that took 3 hours for 9 hole. Course layout is not bad, but the conditions are terrible. Go to flanders nearby for a good experience. Absolute robbery for the price, I’ll never be back here. Enjoy my money, thanks!
Good and Bad
Kudos to ownership for improved conditions. However long way to go before I return. Course was not crowded yet over 2 1/2 to play nine and that was with a group skipping the greens on at least 3.
No rangers, no monitoring of play and the cart deposit is precious.
Rough around edges
I appreciate what the new owners are trying to do but it may be awhile before this course is ready. The lower holes seem to have experienced flooding and were quite rugged. The upper holes are a bit drier and fun to play. It’s a good deal for 18 holes. I hope it dries out and that the new owners make enough money to make it worth their while.
Slow Pacé of play
There was a league about to go out just before my tee time.
I was requested to start on 7 up to nine then go on #1.
By the time I got to # 1 tee there were 3 groups waiting tee off.
It took 3 hours to play 8 holes.
On the bright side the greens I had a chance to put on were in good condition although in need of a good trim..
New And Improved
Greens are much better than before and staff are so friendly so I’m grateful it’s under new ownership. Tee boxes need work but I think with full weekends and a growing maintenance budget, this course will be a staple in my rotation soon.
Getting better, but not great.
The course has improved over the last two years. The greens and traps are now in good shape. The fairways have gotten better, there's no longer swamps in the landing areas, but work is still needed (and is in progress). The tee boxes are still HORRIBLE (but that doesn't concern me a lot).
Don't love the layout; there's a lot of weird driving holes.
It was a HOT Monday AM and the pace was still slow. If you go as a twosome, expect to be paired up at the start or be compelled to after a few holes (I've never finished a round as a twosome here). Of course this isn't unusual in NJ.
Price has gotten high given the course and conditions.
