The coon is awesome
Eating this late in the season we had a good time! Course was in fairly good shape.
This course not scared of cooler weather, always friendly
I have left previous reviews for Raccoon, but need to add additional as well. This course always tries to accommodate and always has friendly service. This time of year, many courses are either closed already, have a shell of a staff and limited drinks/snacks, and many seem to not really want you there since they will have to work later. The employee working at Raccoon, however, definitely did not appear to mind a 3 PM tee time in cold weather on a Sunday afternoon when the course was almost empty, and besides that, the bar was still fully stocked, and sells some decent beers. The course was in the good condition for the time of the year, with the exception being hard sand traps, but at this time of year, overall it is nice to find a place that is open and where you can book online and not have to worry about showing up to a course with no one there.
Late November Golf
Being late November any time you can play is a "bonus" golf day. With an abundant amount of rain only a few days prior, we had no "plugged" balls, most shots not onto the greens actually bounced, The greens were fast. Due to all the rain, we had to stay on the paths where available and we tried to respect the course at other times - after all they were open for play, so why not respect the course. The only problem were the geese - they should work with ODNR to have them trapped and removed.
Over booked and slow!
I've played this course many times and the conditions are always ok. Nothing out of this world but nothing that bad. The pace of play due to over booking was atrocious. As a 2some playing behind a group of 6 with a 4some in front and a group of 5 or 6 in front of them meant that we were waiting basically 5 minutes for nearly every single shot with no chance to even jump ahead. After playing the front 9 holes in 2.5+ hours we tried to hurry to the 10th tee to get ahead of the large group in front of us only to be backed up by another group. After playing 10 and 11 dreadfully slow we couldn't take it anymore and waived the white flag and left. They need to do a better job of policing pace of play or size of groups or just cut out a couple tee times as to avoid the extreme backups. I will say there are other courses in the area that have this same problem so this is a larger problem that just at RH and hopefully the courses can work to improve it.
Never Again
This has got to be one of the worst courses in the area, not only is the course in poor condition the pace of play was extremely slow. It took our group of 2 5 hours to get through 15 holes...when we quit we could not take waiting behind the other groups any longer. When we started off we got put behind a group of older gentlemen (that's a loose term), one a club patron who were playing in groups of 5. After we asked to play through and they said "no", we decided to skip ahead anyhow. so they call the ranger on us and wants to move us to the back 9. its already taken these guys 1.5 hours to make it to the 4th hole. Anyhow the ranger immediately took their side because one of them was a member (bigshot member at Raccoon Hill LOL!) so I complained about pace of play. Most courses even have it written on the scorecard that everyone must maintain a certain pace of play. Other than pace the course was in awful condition. I will never go back.
Quirky, but fun. Mid September Review
Raccoon Hill is a fun, quirky course in Kent. The front nine, the better of the two, is open and extremely playable. The par 5 4th along with 8th and 9th, both short par 4s, are a excellent risk reward holes, these holes can be played several ways. In contrast with the par 5 13th and par 4s 14 & 16, which are the worst one of the worst examples of target in the area. All three of these holes could use some tree removal to make them a little more forgiving. The greens roll straighter than they look and feel. But they are some of them most consistent best rolled greens around, which is always surprising.
The conditions were very nice for an affordable public course. With the dry summer weather, fairways and greens were firm and fast. With the recent closure of several local courses, Raccoon Hill has a lot more play than in recent years.
Nice little bar. Most friendly pro around without a doubt.
Great deal
Always enjoy playing this course. Fairways and greens in great shape, tee boxes need some work, did not affect my play. The course offers some challenges but playable for the high handicapper....keep up the good work....oh ya got a great price to boot.
Friendly staff, average course, good value
I have played here a lot over the last few years are prices are good and the staff is always nice here. There are just a few issues, first is pace of play and lack of rangers, but mostly it is that the clientele here is generally a boorish mix.
For the actual course, it is not long or overly difficult, but some of the holes could use a redesign (13,14,16 especially). Greens are generally quick and fairways are nice. However, bunkers lack sand, and tee boxes are not level.
Great After All These Years
Aside from conditions being nearly perfect, greens were a little more slippery which added to the enjoyment! Still a great colors after all these years.
Put two groups off the back in front of us
The tees are all sand with little or no grass, fairways have large bare spots, geese everywhere. The layout is crazy a Z hole a 261 yard par 4. My wife and play behind a foursome that had no place on a golf course, they quit after nine so we think we can roll on the back side only to find out the pro sent two groups off the back. Nice guys in front of us but they probably didn't break 70 for the back. Got a great deal for 4 rounds probably will not go back to use the other two.
Six somes
People need to be respectful. They think they can drive the green and the only thing they do is hold up play. Six somes should not be allowed. Played behind one!!!!!
Decent cheap course
For the most part, course was well maintained. Only rough spots were tee boxes. Hard to beat for $19
Raccoon Hill
Great course for any golfer from beginner to the advanced player. It places challenges on each and every hole. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your every needs.
A tale of two 9's
The front nine holes are mostly traditional golf holes. The back nine, however, features a couple of short par 4, zig zagging holes. I was just thrown off in however different the sides were. The course was in good shape, greens rolled nicely. I just think this is a course to book if you can get it for cheap. I would never pay more than $20 to play here. I did enjoy my round and will likely be back for the right price.
