Good condition, but crowded these days
Raccoon Hill is a good local course, it is sadly many other local Kent courses have closed in the last year, Oak Knolls, Kent State, and Maplecrest. I think with all of the other courses closing Raccoon Hill is getting more play, especially from local leagues. Play has been slow the times I have gotten out this year. If you get behind leagues, I would encourage you too walk.
The conditions were great, greens rolled fast and true.
The front is really enjoyable, a little on the short side, but a good mix of holes and playing options. The back is similar to the front on most holes, except 13, 14, and 15. Those holes all short with extreme dog legs and require target golf to the point of frustration. I wish they would try to remove as many trees as possible to open up landing and approach shots. On 13 and 16 specifically, you can be inside a hundred yards on the fairway and be blocked by trees. I appreciate the need to direct tee shots, but opening this up would increase the playability of these holes.
What a hidden Gem! Staff exceptional!
This is my 3rd time playing this course and it gets better each time! Just wish this course had 18 holes. The greens, tee boxes and fairways are better than most expensive private country clubs. The staff is extremely friendly.
great course, fast green
it was a really great round fast grans that don't break too hard. I parred every hole! lol
but seriously it's fun lots of dog legs and Double dog legs on the back 9... like I said the greens are fast even when its wet!
Raccoon service always friendly, course consistent
I enjoy getting out to Raccoon, and would go more often if people I played with were closer to the course. Conditions here are always pretty good, even after a large amount of rain on 4/29, on 4/30 the course was in good shape. This course is not overly long or difficult, and pace has always seemed quick here. As a bonus, staff here has always been friendlier than most courses I go to.
Start of the Year
For an April tee time, the course was in great shape. (Too bad I can't say that for my game, but it's early in the season)
Enjoyed the day, weather cooperated with us as the round got underway. Started in a light mist, but finished in full sunshine. Course handled the water from early AM storms admirably.
Unique Fun course
Raccoon Hill has a wide variety of holes, ranging from shorter and severally doglegged par fours and fives, to very long and straighter par fours and fives. The first hole on the golf course is one of the straightest and shortest on the course and the rest of the front is relatively straightforward, holes can easily be thought out from the tee box and there is room for a misplaced shot. The back nine is something different entirely, starts with the longest par five on the course. The 12th and 17th are also really long par 4s at over 450 from the tips. In between are several short extreme dogleg holes that require accuracy in distance and direction. No drivers even for short hitters on these holes. There is not much of any of risk reward with these holes, apart from a high fade on 16 on the tee.
Compared to other local course Raccoon Hill is a good deal, the condition of the course is better than most cheaper golf courses. It is short, but plays longer by talking driver out of your hand on several holes. Staff is always friendly and I have never had an issue with them. Plus no houses.
Fairways and greens were in fantastic shape. Best greens I’ve played on this year, not a bump on them. It’s the spring so there were some wet spots. But it was in good condition overall.
It’s not the only course I would play for the rest of my life, but I still can enjoy playing here.
What a Way to Spend a Late August Day
Beautiful day, course in excellent condition for the time of year. Excellent value thru lastminutegolfer.
Not worth the money
The pace of play was too slow. I played with one other person and we waited on holes 4-18 on the front nine we wanted behind 2 4 somes for 30 minutes just to tee off multiple times on the front. We waited on every hole which makes is basically impossible to keep any sort of rythmn. The course is in pretty poor condition, especially the tee boxes and greens. The back nine is basically target golf with a lot of dog legs. The color of the water in the ponds would rival that of the pools in Rio. A foursome complained on hole 4 concerning the wait and was told to "replay the first 3 holes if they wanted". Overall, I will not play this course again, they need a ranger to help keep the pace of play. The hotdogs were good, that was the best part of the experience.
Good beginners course
Good for beginners, not for experienced golfers. Play was extremely slow at 2:00 on a Saturday until we got to the back 9. Then the fun begins because of the doglegs and zig-zag hole. I shot well, but I won't be back. There is no ranger out on the course promoting quick play. Its cheap to play there, but not that fun. The clubhouse is very dated. The staff was very friendly and the food was good.
Cheap, and that's about it
The course layout leaves much to be desired. It seems there is plenty of spare land between holes to increase the quality of the layout but the owners have no desire to improve the offering. Distances are inaccurate and nearly the whole back 9 is target golf with doglegs and no reason to carry a driver in your bag.
Rain held off
Well the rain never fell.. A nice breeze and the fairways and greens were well maintained
Priced right
Worth the money. Greens need repair
Good value
Course is in good shape always have good service from the staff.
Greens and fairways are in decent shape. Golf Pro and Starter were very friendly.
I was paired up with a 3-some who were very nice. The pace was very slow due to a league. The back 9 plays a "shot makers" course while the front is more open. It was worth the 75 minute drive.
Raccoons hill Rock!
Course was in good condition and pretty fun to play.. We're going back next week!!
Great value
Front nine had enough groups on to slow me down as a single, but back nine was near wide open, played that in 40 minutes.
I like the long par 4's, #2, 12, #17, and the par 3's are a solid challenge from the yellows. Even some of the blue tees make the par 3's strong
Course Ranger ruined the day
We finished 18 holes in about 4.5 hours and yet we're bothered often about speeding up our play. He then said he was going to have the group behind us to play through since we were more than two holes behind the group in front of us. I decided we would just move on to the next hole (14) rather than be bothered by him any longer. Btw, when we started the back 9 we didn't see anyone in front of us. Continuing, we hit our drives on 14 and then found out we had to wait to hit our next shot because we were right behind the group in front of us. Not only was the ranger a pain in the a.. He lied about us being more than two holes behind. On the next hole we had to wait 5-10 minutes on the tee to wait for the group in front to clear the green on the par 3 15th. It continued that way for the remainder of the round! I found it so hard not to look for him and tell him what I thought of him but controled my temper and decided the best way to deal with it is to tell everyone I know not to play there, A real jerk who ruined an otherwise gorgeous day.. DON'T PLAY HERE UNLESS YOU ENJOY BEING HARASSED ! WE PAID THE SAME MONEY AS EVERYONE ELSE! I HAVE NEVER BEEN TOLD TO PLAY FASTER IN ALL MY MANY YEARS OF PLAYING GOLF!!!
Happy they were open!!!
Course conditions were wet, but greatful we we able to play this time of year. Staff very friendly!!
Fun course
Enjoyed the course and staff is very friendly. Have played here several times and have never had a problem. Always got got out when my tee time was booked.
