Brown's Run Country Club
About
Brown's Run Country Club in Middletown offers a championship layout that stretches to just over 6,830 yards. The team of William and Brian Gordon, brothers who have designed more than 85 golf courses all over the U.S., designed Brown's Run in 1958. It has a classic layout that is gentle enough for beginners, but it is an enjoyable round no matter what skill level. There are a few strategically placed sand traps throughout the golf course, which make up for the absence of water. The design is pretty straightforward although there are a few slight doglegs to watch out for. In addition to the challenging but playable design, the course boasts some of the finest fairways and greens in the area. Brown's Run also offers other amenities including an Olympic-size pool and four lighted tennis courts.

Need a lawnmower
The staff was fantastic, but the course needs a lawn mower. The rough was entirely too long for fairways that narrow and greens that small. The greens could also use a mow. They were very slow. The bunkers also had no sand. I know it’s been raining, but you couldn’t even rake them to make a space to hit out of.
Super staff great course ! Grass was like the U S open needs to cut it much lower . It will speed up play!
Great Layout, Challenging course
Course conditions were great, considering it rained earlier in the morning and it was CPO. I've enjoyed the layout which is challenging. My biggest complaint is pace of play. The cart indicated we were 1 hour off pace but we were always waiting on the group ahead of us. Never saw anyone from the course to help groups ahead to get back on pace. Had to stop my round on the 16th because I was out of time for a personal matter. Will still come back to play because the course is great but can't do another 5 1/2 - 6 hour round.
We enjoyed the course
The course is hilly, long and challenging. We’ll be back!
Pack a meal…or two.
We walked off after 14 holes on a Sunday. Not dramatically. Not in protest. Just quietly, rationally, because we were tracking a 5½-hour round and had better things to do with our lives.
The Good News: The greens were excellent. Smooth, true, well-maintained. Whoever is in charge of the greens crew deserves a raise — and apparently got one, because the budget clearly ran out before it reached the fairways.
The Rough: Overgrown and uncut. No excuses — it hadn’t rained in weeks. This is a maintenance choice, not a weather story.
The Pins: Set as if the course was hosting a US Open qualifier. Tucked, slopes, no mercy. On a wide-open Sunday with zero pace of play management, this was bold. Not good bold. Just bold.
The Marshal: Showed up on hole 11. Five groups were already stacked on number 10. We’ll let that speak for itself.
The Carts: Slow. Genuinely, impressively slow. We’re not sure they were faster than walking. We didn’t get to test the theory because we left.
Number 9: Once the original 18th hole. A masterpiece of a closing hole. Someone added a water feature. We have questions. No one has answers.
The Atmosphere: A former country club that has fully embraced a no-rules philosophy. The vibe was less Sunday round of golf and more unsupervised recess. A good time for some. Not for those of us who came to play golf.
The Rain Checks: We left with 9-hole rain checks. They’re on the counter. We’re thinking about it.
Bottom Line: Strong greens, everything else needs work — including the decision-making. Premium price, mid experience. Use those rain checks at your own risk.
Great course
Strict 90 degree into fairways definitely makes the course a pleasure to play, I just wish it was closer to me
Still Fun
Slow greens and uncut fairways. Weird for a Sunday. Fairways and greens were lush and nice however, the rough was concrete and beat up. Odd considering they get unlimited water from the local river. Not a $60 course by any stretch, maybe $40-45.
Cart GPS was horrible, it kept showing return to cart path (eco area)
Overpriced
Course conditions were not what you’d expect for a $72 greens fee.
Tee boxes were badly damaged and numerous dead areas in the fairways
Slow play
The course is not in bad shape. Everything is extremely dry. The greens were in good shape. Tea boxes were at least cut along with the fairways, but the lack of no rangers or to keep up pace of play ridiculous five hour and 20 minute round of golf is absolutely ridiculous
Watch out for dynamic pricing
Reserved through Golfnow and was asked to pay an inflated price at check in. When asked about the difference I was told that they were using "dynamic pricing".
Round was pleasant and course was in ok condition. Not sure it was worth the $65 price point or the $72 with the up charge.
