Mastodon Golf Club

About
Situated midway between Hebron and Newark, Mastodon Golf Club (formerly known as Burning Tree Golf Course) is an 18-hole layout whose location has unique historical significance. In 1989 while digging a new pond for the course, a crewmember discovered fossils of the extinct American Mastodon. Although the original skeleton resides in Japan, the course is home to a full-sized replica as well as over 150 other replicas of both dinosaurs and Ice Age mammals. The museum-quality replicas make the golf course a fun place for families. In addition to the natural history lesson it offers, the course also provides a relaxing round that players of any skill level will enjoy. The regulation-length course has a classic layout that is both accessible and a fair challenge. The affordable rates make Burning Tree even more appealing.

Good cheap golf
Played in late March. Course could be in better shape but hard to complain about a $15 walking round. Great staff. Layout is very fun with some very interesting greens. Will definitely be playing here again.
Avoid Summer
Went with a friend who had played this course once before in the Spring. Long story short, they must not water their grass or something, because the entire course was dead brown grass and dirt, minus the greens which were so-so. I reserved on GolfNow, and when I checked in they tried to make me pay again with the normal rate since apparently it was showing as not paid on their end. I even had to show the staffer my credit card statement showing that it was already paid for, along with my confirmation email. I am sure she was just doing her job, but between the confusion there, and the pitiful state of the course for how much they charge normally, I probably won't be back.
Must be better choices nearby
Course was in awful shape. Not a blade of green grass in the fairways. Traps were basically sand spread in low lying areas around the green. Greens overly lush and mushy in spots - dry and cracked in others.
Good value
It's very dry in central Ohio, so course was a bit burned up from our weather. Pace of play was great, and course is always fun to play
Good for the price
The greens were nice, some had some disease. Cool history on how the course got its name. A Mastadon was found when the course was being developed and the skeleton came out of the pond on #14.
Not worth the price
I was able to get my tee time on a discount but they allowed a 6 person group go ahead of everyone on a Sunday afternoon which really extended my time on the course. Speaking of the course. It is not kept up, and they also watering it in the middle of the afternoon you can see why the greens are cracked and not very well maintained. This course has potential. Stop spending money on fancy carts and spend money on landscapers.
Great people
I usually love playing Mastadon, play today was very slow, 6 people playing in front of me and wouldn't let me play thought. Course was very dry, but we need rain badly, so not really the courses fault.
Not bad
Course is in so/so shape, somewhat understandable with the weather lately, the new GPS carts are nice but I'd rather course conditions be improved before carts. Staff was ok, not overly friendly but not overtly rude. The pin placements on several holes on the back were not only unfair but almost like a greens keepers revenge setup, I know it's Open Championship week but this ain't Troon.
Nice cpurse for the cost couple of the greens need work but a solid outing
This course improved a ton this year. They just got GPS carts and are constantly working on the course (In a good way). Fairly easy course however the greens can be a bit challenging. Good course for the value, 11/10 if you can snag a hot deal. Pace of play is typically good, my only gripe is that the course layout is rather confusing and the fairway grass is a little taller than what I prefer. Would recommend!
