About
Windmill Lakes Golf Club consistently ranks as one of the best courses in the state and is definitely the top golf course in northeastern Ohio. Located in Ravenna, it is the home course for the men's and women's golf teams at Kent State, which is only six miles east of the club. The large, undulating greens are the layout's defining feature. The greens also have a reputation for being some of the best-maintained in the area, allowing them to roll fast and true. The fairways, tee boxes, and rough also boast the same great conditions. More than 50 bunkers are strategically placed throughout the golf course and there are seven lakes that provide water hazards. The Windmill Lakes layout, which measures to just under 7,000 yards, only has two par 5s but there are several long par 4s that demand accurate drives and strong iron play.

Ranger
When we started the Starter told us the course was in tournament condition and the greens were rolled twice just recently. The tee boxes were tore up pretty good and the greens were very bumpy. The pace was really good and a Ranger between 10 and 11 said people were complaining we were taking too long. The group ahead of us were moving along very well and the foursome behind us were walking and never caught up to us so I have no idea what he was complaining about. I may not play here again.

Pace of play
Pace of play was a joke. They definitely had to overbook. 5.5 hour round is ridiculous.

Soggy
Thanks to the staff for getting the course playable after torrential downpour closed the course the day before. Cart path only was the only reasonable chance to play Balls plugged course was very wet but greens were in good shape and bunkers maintained where not full of water. I have played before and if not for tough wet conditions it would have been a great day. Will return and recommend it highly. Great pro shop!

Poorly managed course
They oversold memberships which means you have to plan well in advance and wait by your computer until the moment the tee times are available for members and that's only if they haven't scheduled outings or leagues. Tried to play on 7/23 and was told they have an outing and that only tee times between 7 and 8am were available., however, they were already booked.
When I did have a tee time scheduled, bad weather came in but was through the area before my tee time at 4:08pm but was told they closed the course, I can only assume, so they didn't have to pay employees to stay.
This is a nice manicured public course with a very friendly staff and HUGE selection of...everything in the clubhouse!. Huge greens that were quick but not lightening and rolled true. Pay attention and trust the front, middle, back yardages or you'll have some lengthy putts. If you hit it decently straight (there are some trees but nothing too tight) and a decent putter you have a chance to post a low score.

Still wet from day before
I love the layout but it was cart path only and the fairways were very wet from the rain the day before.The staff was great!

Still best public course around
Considering all the rain we have gotten the course was in great shape. Most of the rough was very wet and not passable. The course provided a cheat sheet for each hole. By far the best greens around. Starter was friendly and engaging.

Good value
Excellent walking course. Interesting layout. Home course for Kent State. Has the best tent sale in August to purchase all golf items.
