About

Length 6772 yards
Slope 136
Rating 72.7

There are two 18-hole courses at Reid Park Golf Club, the North and the South. The courses have been providing one of the greater Springfield area's best golf values for over 40 years. The championship North Course is the longer and more challenging of the two. The South Course is open and walkable while the North Course features a hillier terrain with elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Mature trees frame the large, slick greens and there are also strategically placed bunkers throughout. Many locals consider it to be one of the toughest golf courses in the area. Though there are different tees so that you can play to your skill level, beginners may want to stick with the South Course, which still has challenges but is more player-friendly than the North.

A lot of the staff was very rude

The course itself is not bad. The are 36 holes, and one side is tough while the other side is a little easier. It is fairly well maintained. For the price, it is a really good deal as far as the golf is concerned.

The staff was very rude. The guys who assigned the carts, barked at people and refused to get off his stool. He would make the customer walk around and tell him what number each cart was so he could assign it to you. There was a lady in the restaurant part who had to have been the cart guys twin sister. My wife, who never complains about places we go, turned to me at one point and asked if being a jerk was an application requirement.

My wife and I are intermediate golfers. We were there 4.5 hours and only were able to get 11 holes complete. We had to leave due to other plans. They say they have Rangers who watch pace of play, but that is obviously not the case. I do not have a problem with people taking their time and enjoying the game, but the people we played behind (couple different groups) showed no inclination of displaying common courtesies, such as letting people play through or a sense of urgency when someone is on the Tee box behind them. That led to my wife and I almost being hit by balls several times as the people behind us would hit while we were waiting on the people in front of us.

As I said, the golf course is a good value for the money. So if you have 6 or 7 hours to kill, and you do not mind being barked at by the staff, this is a very fun and challenging course. I will go back, but only during my the day on a weekday.

Good value but....

There weren't enough carts available for all the folders on both courses. That created a frustrating "waiting list" and frustrated starter/ Marshall. As for a Marshall; if there was an active Marshall on this busy day the pace of play would have benefited. Myself and two other singles partnered up then played through several groups till we made the turn and then one left because of the pace. Course was in fairly good condition I have to say that! For a heavily played public course it was in great condition. Iron out those other issues and it's a premier experience for the money!

Terrible

I think it's unfair to review the course due to the fact I never played it. I showed up and noticed quite a few kids on the tee box. After going to check in I discovered they over booked, the guy went outside to see what was going on, and discovered the high school team went out on the wrong course. After he found that out all he had to tell me was sorry looks like we started them on the wrong. After that I left and that was the end of it, I won't go back to this course cause I'm not gonna wastey money and time to drive there and find out that they can't even organize tee times.

Golfing at Reid

If you like playing as a five-some, this course allows it, even on the weekends in the morning. We had two five-somes in front of us playing causing the play to be extremely slow! When we made the turn and asked the starter about the five-some playing, we were surprised to hear him say they allow it at the course. I told him it was slowing down play and he didn't want to hear it. We finally called the pro shop on the 12th hole seeing the two groups on the same hole and seeing that they had three holes in front of them open. The pro shop sent someone out who was sympathetic to our complaints, but did nothing. I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to get a four round in on the weekend to look elsewhere to play. It was extremely frustrating hitting a shot and having to wait to hit the next shot on every shot. The course, price and facilities are in excellent shape. I just can't believe that a course would allow five golfers to golf in the same group weekend mornings.

Well kept

First time to play this course, sure could have used a map as to the lay out, lot of shots that was hit into the unknown, other than that it was a very nice experience . Wasn't the friendliest folks but didn't have to be did their job. Didn't see but one ranger and that was on # 18, Five guys playing in front of us but moved out good.

excellent condition

From the moment you arrive at the golf course the staff does their best to help you out with anything you need. From the novice to the experienced you can find everything you need to make your trip a successful one. Each hole was well maintained and game play ran like clockwork. Overall I was extremely pleased with the course and would say it is a must play to any of those looking for a challenge!

Spring Golf

The course plays long in the spring with the added rain making the rough tough to get out of. The greens are always fast and with severe breaks. Very few gimmes on these greens.

Long rough

Course great shape, don't get above the hole, you will 3 putt ! Lot of slope on this course. Everything was great but rough was long so you had a lot of time looking for balls if you were not in the fairway.

Great course, but no distance markers

Reid North was a great, challenging course. However, there were no distance markers out on the course and no maps on the holes or scorecard to have any idea as to the hole layout. Luckily 2 of our foursome had played there before, otherwise we would have no idea where we were hitting, especially with the hills and unexpected water ahead. It was also very frustrating to often just have to guess how far out we were since there were no yardage markers. In addition to that, there was an old power-hungry starter that was somehow able to find a way to get upset about anything. All in all, it was an enjoyable course, but if I was really trying to score well, I would have been very upset about the lack of pre-shot information I was able to find. If they added maps to the scorecard, yardage posts on the holes, and a friendlier staff, this would be one of the top courses in the area.

My favorite course

Reid North's mature trees and hilly terrain make it both scenic and challenging. (Slope rating 129 from the men's regular tees). Each hole has its own character and poses a unique test of golf skills. The greens are well maintained and most of the fairways as well. The rough can be dicey but that's part of the challenge of the course. It has to be one of the best city courses in Ohio.

South course OK only

South course is a lot of back and forth layout in which you are in contact with other players on other holes. Nothing special. Not much elevation changes. Fairways reasonable well kept. Greens ok. About average for the area. The North course is a star better with more distance between holes and elevation changes are challenging. Given the GolfNow discounts, a very good deal. I would not pay their normal rates.

Don't be in a hurry...

Had a two-some on the North course. Don, the starting ranger, looking up from reading a book told us to go "wherever we wanted". Well, a game that should have taken 3 hours..... we played 16 holes in 4 1/2 hours and finally gave up. There were up to 4 groups on a hole at one point. Hit the ball and wait was the name of the game at this course
Ridiculous. Starting ranger failed to do his job and due to that fact, that ruined our experience at Reid Memorial and won't be returning.
Other than that, course was well maintained.
