Roses Run Country Club

About
Roses Run Country Club is touted as being northeast Ohio's toughest public golf course. The course has an interesting mix of holes from lengthy par 4s to tough par 3s and reachable par 5s. The front nine is a traditional links layout while the back nine hugs the Cuyahoga River with winding fairways that melt into fast, sloping greens. The layout incorporates a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. There are also water hazards and strategically placed bunkers coming into play throughout. Roses Run Country Club will require some creative shot-making and the use of every club in your bag. It's a formidable layout that will test even the most skilled players. There is a driving range and practice putting green you can use for warming up, which might be a good idea before taking on this tough course.

Best of both
It has some easier holes and then there is some hard holes too. It’s a fun course to play.
What happened to this place?
So it had been a couple of years since I've played here. The last time I played here I believe it was 2023 and the course was in great shape. I was super disappointed this time around. The fairways were had a lot of crabgrass and were cut at all different lengths. The rough was a muddy weedy mess. The worst part was the staff kept turning on the sprinkler systems while I was playing on the entire front nine. It wasn't till the back nine that they started tailing me and turning them on after I was finished playing which was also kind of annoying because it almost seemed like I was an inconvenience and they wanted me to hurry up so they can turn the sprinklers on. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention, it was also raining on and off that whole day. Why are you turning on the sprinkler systems when it's already wet out and it's been raining on and off. I remember this place being pretty challenging with the layout it's tight and you got to find fairways but I also forgot how bad it was when you hit really beautiful drives right down the center and then all the sudden you can't find your golf ball. Not going to blame the course for that, that's on me not knowing the course layout from not playing in 2 years but it became frustrating when you add that on top of everything else that was going on that day with the grounds crew and how poorly conditioned I felt the course was. I won't be back for a long time. I don't know if they changed ownership or if something's happened to where they're just not taking care of the course but it wasn't as nice as I remember. The guy running the pro shop was really nice though, and after I finished I still decided to have a beer at the bar and the staff behind the bar was really nice. So a+ for the staff on exception of the grounds crew. They get an f.
Pace was good, poor drainage and the greens were like shag carpet
Wet but great conditions
After several days of rain, it’s a fairways were wet, and it was cart path only but course is in great shape. While the front are not that challenging the back nine will definitely test your accuracy and require strategic ball placement.
Yikes...
Your paying for the layout (kind of). Don't expect perfect greens, tees or anything related to the carts/ clubhouse. Everything is run down and dated. Carts look like they've been to war. 50/50 chance the bag strap gives and your $700 driver hits concrete. Some greens are borderline unplayable (17). Goose poop everywhere. Did I pay to play golf or dodge landmines? Layout could be fun but its hard to overlook all the issues at this one. Needs some major updates to be at $60 a round and outrageous food / snack / drink prices.
Early season
It was early season. But In the summer I’m sure it’s a pretty fun track when it’s nice and green and the greens prolly roll quicker. Still fun for $40
Pretty darn good
This place is really coming along well, I’m glad I live so close by.
Great
I had a fantastic time playing at Roses Run! The course is in excellent condition, well-maintained fairways and smooth greens. The layout is challenging, fun and beautiful.
One of the coolest things about this course is its history—it used to be a horse race track, which adds a unique charm to the layout. Located next to the Kent State Airport and Cuyahoga River, small air planes will occasionally fly around while you play golf along the river. AMAZING! It’s a great place to play if you’re looking for a mix of challenge, history, and scenic surroundings.
The staff was welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was fantastic. I’m excited to see how the new ownership continues to improve things. Definitely a must-play for any golfer in the area!
