Elks 797 Golf Club

About
The 797 Elks Golf Club, formerly known as Quail Lakes Golf Course, has changed more than its name since first opening in 1961. When the course was up for sale in the 1980s, the trustees of the adjacent Elks 797 Lodge purchased the property in order to keep a public golf course for the community. The front nine was created well before the back nine was completed. Although the two nines provide a vastly different look and feel, they provide plenty of variety that manages to meld seamlessly into a great round. The ever-changing landscape adds to the course's diversity. Mature trees and tall grasses line the fairways, making accuracy essential, and you'll also find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. There are definitely some challenges in store but with careful course management, you'll be rewarded with some birdie opportunities.

Honest People
This is a great conservative area ! Staff is great a 5 star course for family !! This is definitely a attraction for Wilmington!
Issues
I paid the entire greens fee online via GolfNow and they tried to charge me an additional $11.00. Unacceptable. Good thing I had access to my email receipt.
Decent
Worth $22 but nothing more, very short and easy course with a few weird holes that get confusing but other than that it wasn’t bad.
Course conditions
Course needs lots of work to bring the course back to be llike what it used to be,great fairways and greens. It used to have the best greens. Hopefully they will get it back to what it used to be
Awefull
Course is in very very bad shape. Fairways are mud pits and have tank tracks everywhere. Greens have crabgrass and bare spots all over them. Bunkers are not even bunkers any more. I've been playing this course for years. Never seen it this bad!!!! Looks like the maintenance staff took a permanent vacation. Cant wait till Majestic Springs opens. It's a little more money but at least you feel like your on a golf course and not a wasteland. Stay away. I am.
Winter Round
Considering the weather and elements the course was a little soft but playable. We experience wind al ok day but it did calm a little after 7 or 8 holes
Going Down Hill
The course is in very poor shape.
Little to no grass in the fairways and the greens were so dry they had cracks in the putting surface.
The two other courses in the county are in much better shape and would be the better choice.
Course is always fun to play.front nine extremely slow. Players need to play ready golf. We had to wait 5 to 10 minutes on each hole. The back nine was a great pace. We actually caught another 4some that was 6 holes ahead of us on 17.all golfers need to be aware of what is going on around them.
It is still a fun course to play
Staff was very nice. Not too crowded. Fast pace of play. Course conditions only okay.
Ok course for the locals
I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. I even thought about the original owner (who built the first 9 holes) and how he’d be embarrassed at the condition of the course. The fairways needed cut, greens were burnt and beat up, rough grass needed to be cut. It was nearly impossible to find your ball if you weren’t in the fairway. I regretted driving the hour from my house to play it. The course needs a lot of work and it could be great if they cared about it. I do not recommend the course at this time.
The 797 Elks
For the price you pay, you get every amount of your money spent out on the course. The greens are pure along with some beautiful par 3s over the water. The fairways need to be cut down a little bit but causes little to no problems other than visuals. If you are wanting to play a course that gives you good bang for your buck this is a great option.
