Nightmare
First the good. This is a good track. Course was in good shape. Decided to play a late round as the price was very good and was familiar with the course. I will never play in the afternoon on a weekend again. Took THREE hours for 9 holes. A word of advice to beginners or extremely high handicaps. Don't bite off more course than you can chew. All it does is clog up the courses and destroy pace of play. Learn the rules of the game, where you should be on the course, when to pick up and move on, or better yet go to the range and then start with short benign golf courses. Is it really enjoyable hitting a ball 20 yards at a time? Having no idea whatsoever how to chip or putt. Guess what, you're not playing golf. I don't care if someone shoots 130 as long as you know how to handle yourself on the course. Such a shame to waste a great weather day.
I paid $45.00 on monday because I am a Rockland County Resident
I had the pleasure of playing at this prestigous course on a Monday at 8am. Normally, the rate would have been $75.00, but since I was a Rockland County resident I only payed $45.00. That is a steal if you ask me! Most courses around Rockland are usually closed on a Monday for maintenace but NYCC had this great deal so I had to do it. I highly recommend playing here. Cheers!
Pretty Course but Crammed Tee Times
First time ever playing here yesterday and course was in pretty good shape. This is a beautiful course, specially the front 9. I wanted to give this course 5 stars but had to take away one because of too closely booked tee times. Normally courses book tee times every 15 minutes apart but here they had every 10 minutes. People behind us were almost on our back every hole as two groups in front of us were moving slowly. We finished our round in under 4 hours but still felt we were being rushed. Nice clubhouse (hot dogs are expensive, though at 7 dollars). Staff was pleasant and professional. Wish could give it a 5.
Good relative value
Great course, good green condition. Value on twilight vs course is pretty amazing.
Hole in one on 8 from the whites :)
Beautiful day, great course, have played many times coming up from Nyc. Hit a hole in one Sunday from the whites on #8, made the day, looking forward to going back.
My value
Course not up to par Greens aerated, winter cut in progress and tee box layout not thought thru
With said. Course still nice and enjoyable to play
Little pricey
Like the course but pricey. Practice range has only irons permitted. Course opened late for the season due to renovation. And course is going through aeration. Course is not in great condition.
Amazing
Great golf course, excellent condition and pace like not others I have been before.
Ny cc
The course was in very good shape, fairways and greens even the rough were clean and cleared of leaves wich at times can be hard to find your ball and slow up play...over all good conditions good golf.
good condition
good condition.
Especially the green conditions were perfect.
Beautiful views....
.....from the club house. Course conditions were very good. I didn't even mind the few greens that were top dressed. But watering some greens in the middle of the round to the point that there were puddles, I don't think so. Maybe because it was a Monday. The greens were too fast for the undulations. Otherwise fun to play.
Could be a really nice course.
Over-all a nice manageable couse for bogey HC golfers. Friendly staff and facilities we're clean and presentable. A couple of the tee boxes we're pretty beat up, but it's to be expected considering that it's late in the season. Don't understand what the management was thinking with the terrible pin palcements...locating holes on the slope between two tiers?
I appreciate the feedback from NYCC and commend the addition of more rangers. Unfortunately the problem with slow play is more times than not a function of beginners and less skilled golfers playing courses beyond their skill level and from the wrong set of tees and not knowing when to pick up their ball and move on. As semi private pay for play golf courses struggle to survive and offer pricing on par with public courses the 5+ hour round is going to be the norm unless you can tee off early enough. Throw in courses that squeeze in golf outings and the 4.5 hour round is going to be extinct.
Gentleman, The New York Country Club would like to thank you both for your posting. In regard to the pace of play, our target is 4.5 hours per foursome. Because we have had an increase of players this Spring we have taken the appropriate measures to keep the course moving by increasing the number of starters and rangers on the weekends, 2 rangers and 2 starters on holes #1 & #10 from open until 7:00pm. We also advise any group that is stuck behind a slower group to contact the pro-shop if a ranger is not in sight and we will address the situation immediately.
Although there will be times when the pace of play will be longer then our targeted 4.5 hours due to unforeseen circumstances, please be assured that we will do everything possible to resolve the issues when they occur.
Twosomes playing behind foursomes should expect to play at the same pace.
The New York Country Club has recently refurbished the clubhouse and made many improvements to the golf course. The course is in the best playing condition it has been in for many years. We have had a wonderful spring and the word is out. As interest in playing at NYCC increases we will continue to do all that we can to ensure that each golfers experience at the New York Country Club is a memorable one, and that the pace of play is held to our high standards.
We hope to see you both up at the club again soon. I guarantee a better experience then your previous one.
Sincerely,
NYCC Management
I agree with everything stated here. I think the rangers need to keep a better eye on pace. A buddy and I ventured up a weekend afternoon and were told to head to the tee box. We got there and saw a twosome was chipping on the green, another twosome was on the way to their tee shots, and a threesome was waiting on the tee box. 4 groups on the starting hole is unacceptable! Continued on to get through 5 holes in about 2 and a half hours; no hyperbole. Thankfully the ranger moved us two other groups were waiting on a tee box for a par 4. Nice course, brutal pace.
