Could be better
Got a good deal from GN. Course condition could have been better, fairways and greens were not as good as before. Some holes are quite challenging especially no 9,10,18, bit overpriced during summer
great course
best value for a real country club greens were in descent shape the last hole we teed off in the dark we both couldn't find our balls so we took bogies
are starting time was 12:40 there were a few groups in front of us that were slow 4 1/2 hour round this time of year you need to tee off before noon.
fun course
Fun to play and met a couple members who were nice to play with.
60 bucks
Have played course many times over the years. Course needs some TLC. Greens a major disappointment. And fairways spotty at best. Won't go back. Played as a two in three hours was only good thing
Always a pleasure to play NYCC
This is a great track. Got a chance to go out at twilight on a cold windy day. With the aforementioned conditions in play, the course was virtually empty. As a 3some, we got our round done in 3.5hrs. Tee boxes are in decent shape, fairways are in better shape and the greens are just beat up; not surprising for mid-October I guess. Didn't buy any concessions so I can't comment on that, but the mobile cart did come around at least 3 times during our round. All in all, I usually play this course at least 3 times a year and will continue to do so. In my opinion this course is a bit overpriced in the summer but the spring and fall rates are more appropriate so that's usually when I play NYCC. Happy golfing!!
Definitely do again!
From the great starter to the friendly Bartender it wS a really good day.
Shades of Excellence and past glory
Here's a course which someone, at some point, dumped a lot of money into, but has since slid. Everything is a bit worn around the edges. The club house, the course, etc, it's all a bit faded.
The course overall has a very good layout with some extreme elevations. Unfortunately, some of these extreme elevations means you have some rather ridiculous holes like 9 which is god awful. Ten is one of those holes that had they made a par three would be incredible, but instead they made it a par four and it becomes cheesy.
Most of the greens are in mediocre condition with some big patches of just dirt, otherwise they are fast. Most of the greens have a major hump, multiple levels or ridge that make them very challenging - too challenging for the average golfer.
No complaints about the teeboxes or the carts. The staff is very accomodating and friendly. The lunch there is far better than one might expect. The turkey club is awesome.
I'll go again if I get a discount. I would never pay full fare for this place though. Mansion Ridge is a better deal for the money.
Great time!
Had a great time, course in great shape. I would recommend this track for all intermediate or better golfers.
Should lower the rates
I usually like playing here. The conditions were horrible. All greens were eaten up andthe rough ontop of it weremuch thicker than usual even around the greens making it more lije a 82 no a 72 rating. They really need to not charge top dollar rates under those conditions this late in the year. Completely unfailr to the golfers.
Great round
First time playing, conditions were great. Will come back
Disappointing for the money
The course is nice and interesting, but the greens seemed to have some sort of fungus. Basically, the greens were in poor shape. For $105 I expected better.
Tough Course for Beginners
Course is beautiful, gorgeous views, it's tight in spots and the fescue is abundant. Great course rule of no out of bounds. You have to stay in the fairways to score well, once you're in the rough its tough getting out. Played a twosome and never waited. 3 3/4hr round
Great course
Always wanted to play a round there. And I'm glad I did. Challenging. Great views. Pace was perfect.
Never heard of this hidden gem but it was excellent.
The course has many challenging holes I had never played there before and I felt like each hole kept testing me. But who doesn't love a good challenge? I was shocked to discover that the course is open to the public because the facility and course is so pristine that one would assume it would be members only. The scenic views are somewhat breath taking. I will definitely take my business back to New York Country Club!
In financial trouble?
NYCC is one of those courses that presents itself as a "country club experience" course. It even went so far as to name itself "country club."
What does it mean when a daily fee place seeks to sell itself this way? One should expect: better customer service, attentive and friendly staff and superior course conditions, especially the greens. And of course, elevated greens fees.
Right now, it should be renamed "New York Golf Course, " and should be offering $40 weekend rounds.
I should first note that some aspects of NYCC are still meeting the high expectations. Clubhouse staff and the men who help you with your bag when arriving or leaving are still friendly and helpful. (I personally would prefer to load my own bag onto my cart, and skip the "wipe-down your clubs?" routine, but I understand that is part of the country club treatment.) As before, NYCC features very pretty and nice ladies in the restaurant.
As for the couse. The tee boxes are in good shape. It's a pretty good track, with only a few weird holes (##9 and 17, for example). Not much else is good. The fairways were spotty. Most of the waste bunkers have weeds growing into them, which was not the case before. The greens were really beat up around the holes -- looked like they had been neglected for a while, and pins badly needed to be moved. Greenside bunkers are all infested with bees, and if you choose to play your ball despite the bees, you will find the sand to be packed and muddy -- not what they should be at these prices.
Particularly troubling was a ranger, with a tattoo on his forearm, who confronted us in a hostile, drill sergeant way. Acted as though we had snuck onto the course, while we had been sent out by course staff, in the absence of a starter. We were especially disgusted to hear him make what sounded like an ethnic slur against the man who loaded our clubs for us. Maybe he didnt intend the remark that way; but he doesn't belong at even the worst muny course.
For the big bucks this place is charging, I suggest any of the nearby alternatives.
Good Course
First time I played here. Course was in good shape but the greens were all pockmarked by unprepared ball marks. Otherwise, the greens were in good shape too.
Staff was great. I'll play here again.
Tight fairways and plenty of hills
Played this course for the first time, and overall it was a very nice experience. Fairways are very tight with thick rough, plenty of trees and thick natural areas throughout the entire course. You have to keep your drives in the fairway if you want to score well. This is a VERY hilly course with some sort of elevation change on almost every hole. In fact, the 9th hole is one of the most dramatically uphill holes I've ever played. Its not super long, but it is literally straight up a mountain. The course was in good shape, but the greens were kind of dry which made them very fast and difficult to hold on approach shots. Couple the speedy dry greens with virtually no flat putts and putting was an adventure. I found it to be a bit pricey unless you go after 1PM, but the pace of play was good and I would go back and play again.
Good course, could be in better shape
Played this course for the first time. It was a fun layout - a lot of elevation on holes 1,9, 10, and 18 make for some interesting shots. I played as a single and the course was not that crowded so I played through two groups and got around in under 3 hours. The greens were a bit disappointing as they were on the slow side and had a lot of ball marks, not quite "country club" standards. I wouldn't pay full price to play here but if you can get a good deal during the week or in the afternoon it is worth it.
Played July 3rd Holiday Weekend
I played as a foursome on July 3rd for the first time with my buddies. I couldn't have asked for a better day. We usually play Patriot Hills in Stony Point, NY, but we decided to play at New York Country Club. The greens were rolling great and consistent. Our pace was 4 hours and 20 mins which we thought was exceptional for a holiday weekend. The service was one of there best offers other than there course. Hot bartenders and good food. what more can you ask for.. I will be back
Pace of Play is terrible
The condition of the course is terrible and the pace of play was too slow. There are no rangers helping to monitor the pace of the golfers. Golf etiquette from the groups in front was terrible as some chose to hit two to three times and continued to damage the greens when putting.
