Silver Lake Golf Course
About
Silver Lake Golf Course sits along Staten Island's North Shore, offering a scenic and challenging layout that is one of the five boroughs' best-kept secrets. The course has a classic layout with postage stamp-sized greens and narrow fairways. At just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, the golf course appears shorter than it plays. The tight layout demands accuracy throughout especially on the lengthier holes, of which there are several. The course offers interesting risk-reward opportunities and holes 12 through 14 are considered by locals the "Amen Corner" of the North. The entire layout will test your shot-making abilities. In addition to the challenging round, Silver Lake is known for having consistently excellent conditions with some of New York's best greens, which is why it has garnered a strong following among local players.

Slow pace
First time playing course.
Had read prior reviews on the slow pace of play.
Played on a Wed. Was hoping pace of play would not be as big of an issue on a wed.
Pace of play terrible Had to leave after 9 holes because I couldn’t take the pace any longer. A lot of the problem was larger groups of hackers.
Course was good otherwise. Greens in good shape.
Would not play here again due to slow play..,,
Also would not refund 9 holes….
Pace of play was extremely slow we couldn’t even finish our round we only played 12 holes in 6 hours ….
Staten Island’s best public golf course
If you’re trying to decide between the 3 public courses on the Island, this would be the one to play. This course stays good throughout the year. Well priced for the difficulty level. Good amenities
The course was in good condition and it is a challenging test - not stupidly long but tricky. BUT the pace of play is ridiculous.
That's it - the pace of play is seriously detrimental to an otherwise great venue. They need to educate guests and maybe limit numbers as there were too many 'jokers' out on a Sunday morning to make it fun.
They also allowed 2,3 and 4 balls to go out seperately which doesn't make much sense for such a popular course.
It is good, and I will go back, but not at a weekend.
Slow
No ranger, slowest round of golf I’ve played in 7 years around NYC. Front 9 took over 3 hours. Shame because the course has some good shots
Best public course on the Island
Silver lake has done the best job of all the public courses on the island of grounds keeping throughout the season. Course is challenging, price is on par for the quality. Uses slope and trees to protect a lot of the holes. Good course to practice shot selection and positioning
Terrible Tee Sheet Mgmt
Hate to knock Silver Lake because I love the layout and think it's a hidden gem of a course at a reasonable price tag. They allowed 3 threesomes to head out together before noon on a Sunday. There were 6 Golf Carts waiting at the 3rd hole Par 3 and that pretty much repeated itself for the entire day. Tee times are too close to begin with but you're all but guaranteeing a 5 to 6 hour round when you let 9 guys leave together on a Sunday. Just crazy.
