Silver Lake Golf Course
About
Silver Lake Golf Course sits along Staten Island's North Shore, offering a scenic and challenging layout that is one of the five boroughs' best-kept secrets. The course has a classic layout with postage stamp-sized greens and narrow fairways. At just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, the golf course appears shorter than it plays. The tight layout demands accuracy throughout especially on the lengthier holes, of which there are several. The course offers interesting risk-reward opportunities and holes 12 through 14 are considered by locals the "Amen Corner" of the North. The entire layout will test your shot-making abilities. In addition to the challenging round, Silver Lake is known for having consistently excellent conditions with some of New York's best greens, which is why it has garnered a strong following among local players.

Tight narrow track, accuracy a must.
Always nice coming back to the Lake where I spent many rounds playing this game. Caught sweet deal due to rain in the forecast and starting after an outing. First nine took 2 hours 40 minutes because I was playing behind two foursomes that were all at least 20+ handicappers. After the front, starter gave me the ok to replay the front to avoid slow play and finished in 1 hour and 45 minutes with my 2nd foursome. Course in decent shape but greens we're slow for Silver Lake standards. Always a great place to play and catch a meal afterwards.
Great For The Money
If youre looking for something thats affordable but still a relatively challenging course than id highly recommend Silver Lake. I've played this course a lot over the last two years and there arent many negatives to point out. Occasionally you get the pace of play issues typical of NYC courses but usually they are better than the alternatives. Course condition isnt immaculate by any stretch but this is a public course in NYC so I'd say they do a decent job considering (although you should definitely avoid playing after they aerate the greens if you can). Basically just keep your expectations reasonable and you'll have a good time here.
Tight lines
Great walking layout but that caused a lot of "Fore!" calls. The green to tee and fairway to fairway distances is close. The course is not long playing 6300 yards (though many of the Tee boxes were up) from the back. The fairways are slim and lined with trees. The greens are moderately sized with some challenging contours.
The greens looked to be punched within the last few weeks. they were a decent speed but bumpy.
The pace of play was terrible. I had an eight 22 Tee time and did not get off until almost eight 45. Then waited around for a five hour round. Need to do something.
Fantastic
Always a pleasure playing here, greens are in good shape!
Air raid in middle of day
They statred to air raid the front nine at 3pm so started on the back which was fine. U would think they would do it earlier in the morning so it wouldnt effect game play. The foursome in front of me turned around and left because of this.
Great layout- short but challenging
Great place to play with your buddies add a very reasonable rate ! Staff is friendly and accommodating. The course is always in great shape!
Air riad in middle of the day
Course was in good shape they sent us off the back 9 beacase they where air raiding the front. Just wish they did that lter in the day so it didnt effect my game.
Nice course just over the bridge
The course was in good shape, although they were repairing a few greens on the front 9.... so had to deal with a few temporaries. I played by myself after a tournament ended and flew through 18 in just about 2 hours!!!
Pace of play..
Overall, i thought the greens were in good condition. I am a beginner but i thought we could have used rangers more to assist other beginners to pick up or drop their ball and move on to improve pace of play.
Otherwise, layout is what i remembered, and I thought the condition was better than last year, probably due to more rain.
Serious Tee Time management and pace of play issues
We arrived for our Tee time scheduled for 9:15 am and as we checked in we were told that there was a 30 minute backup to tee off. They were not apologetic in the least, it seemed as if this was normal. We actually did not tee off until 10:15 a full hour after our scheduled time. A foursome who started on the back had to squeeze in to the backup as well.
With this backup, we waited 5-10 minutes every hole on the front 9. Knowing the above foursome would be leaving, we hoped the back 9 would start moving. However, the threesome in front of us ended up almost a hole and a half behind the group in front of them and there was no ranger to tell them to pick up the pace. With the course so backed up you would think that they would be concerned with keeping it moving.
Between the hour wait and the 5 hour round we were at the course for 6 hours which is completely unacceptable. I will not be returning.
great place
It was hot but everything else yesterday at Silver Lake on Staten Island was pleasurable.
We did receive a hot deal thru Golfnow. We arrived 30 minutes early. When we arrived no one was on the tee for at least 20/25 minutes. The clerk kept telling us he was receiving flak from management about letting people out early We mentioned to him that per Golnow website there was anyone booked in front of us for more than 15 minutes, let bus out. He said no and then an instructional group for kids arrived. Long story short we wound up starting on Hole #4 and did not play the entire 18. Yes the price was good but the service wasn't. As a group I doubt we will be going to Silver Lake in the near future.
Pace of play
Pace of play was horrendous! People about 2 groups ahead of us were basically giving each other lessons on the course. We told the ranger and he did nothing. We left before our round was finished, won't be back.
Narrow course
Lotes of trees, very narrow farways otherwise not a bad course price is a little high for twilight times.
Easy golf getaway from Manhattan
The course shuttle van meets you at the Staten island Ferry terminal, for the short 10 minute ride to the course. Friendly staff, and great course conditions are highlights of this easy weekend day trip.
