Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Fun but challenging
Never play the same each time I play this course always fun. Too bad can't use my scores toward my handicap
Great Day
Good course, fast pace of play, good conditions... Awesome Day!!!
Challenging course with a fair price
Before I went I read some of the negative reviews and have come to the conclusion that those folks just aren’t that good at golf. The course was fun, people there were friendly and the course is just challenging. Tight fairways and long par 3s, it’s a great course to test your skill.
Great Pocono Course
Nice layout. Some long par threes. Lots of slope on some of the greens. Green conditions excellent. Lots of break in the putts on some greens.
Not Going Back
The huge electric towers that greet you when you get there are the first clue that this isn't going to be a good experience. While the girl behind the paltry pro shop counter was very nice, dealing with the starter guy was like talking to a brick wall. The course itself has a bizarre layout, with numerous tight tree lined fairways and blind shots, including one where you have to either punch through trees or lay up and take three shots to maneuver a dog leg. Some of the other holes had condos lining them that can easily come into play for the average casual golfer. Around the course you'll find more power lines/towers and a large cell tower (two of the holes the cell tower acts as a target line). I don't really need to be irradiated when golfing thank you. As for fairways, they were "ok" but inconsistent as many had some bad spots. Greens were relatively nice, but soft so most lofted shots didn't get much roll. The sand bunkers were horrible. There was rain the prior day, but even so, there were numerous bunkers with deep grooves and pits and rocks and mud and such that made them virtually unplayable. The course is kind of short (except one very long par 5) so there are some holes you can score. While some very good golfers who like to be challenged may find they can avoid the trees and bunkers and have a round that isn't so bad, most casual golfers will get chewed up and spit out by this course. If it was nicer and more well kept that would be fine, but given the poor layout, inconsistent fairways and crappy bunkers, it all just adds up to a place I never wish I went and will never go again.
Great Shape
Great day of golf. Course was in great shape. Greens held well. Only complaint, no beverage cart and you have to go out of your way to go back to clubhouse... Overall, good experience!
Pocono hills okay
A couple of holes are a little challenging due to the slope, but overall a nice little course. Too bad you can't use your scores for your handicap
Great golf course in the Poconos
We love Pocono Hills. Course is in great shape and the staff always friendly.
