Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

It’s not for everyone, but I enjoy this quirky course. Tee boxes, fairways and rough in good shape. Some greens had brown patches that didn’t really affect putts. Greens were soft and consistent. Sand in bunkers needs to be softer.
Getting hot
Wow what a difference a course can be without all that rain . Fast and long ball travel. Greens are faster but , some are showing some mold damage. Otherwise go play .
Quirky but fun
Pocono Hills begins after the 3rd hole. Then elevation takes over. Just about every hole plays up or down into the green. There's a good assortment of short and long holes. The challenge is judging your club selection to match the raise/fall to the green. The other main challenge are the par 3s that can all play over 200 yds. First time players will be at a disadvantage trying to figure out tee shots; club and line. There were a number of "ah ha" moments when you got up to your ball. With all the rain we recently had the course played pretty dry. Overall, we had a fun time.
Rain rain go away come again another day.
Rain started just before tee off. Thunder and lightning for a hour . Wet conditions with standing water in spots. Not a lot of people playing due to the early rain but that made plat better. 2 1/2 hours .
Always a good time
First time this year and wasn't let down.
I am always amazed that this course is basically run by young people. And they do a great job.
Unfortunately, we got stuck behind two slow foursomes, but the weather was so nice we didn't care.
The course is in very good shape. It has a low slope rating, But we find it challenging. Some very narrow fairways and a couple of blind holes make it fun.
Highly recommend this course.
Quirky mountain course
At around 6000 yds, Pocono Hills is not a long course. It puts a value on shot making and judging elevation changes. PH has a strong set.of par 3s that can stretch over 200 yds. Almost all holes involve significant up hill approaches challenging the players judgement. Over all a fun course to play. Conditions were mid-season prime despite a week of rainy weather.
Solo round
Played by myself here. Everyone I came across let me play through them which was great and I wound up getting my round in about 3 hours. But there were several groups that were playing with 6+ people in them.
Wet and windy
Cold morning to start . 48 degrees. Course was wet and soft . Needs to dry out.
improved
I hadn't played here since last spring and I was pleasantly surprised at how improved the fairways and greens are.
