Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club

About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

An enjoyable play
Played as a single in the early afternoon with a deal from GN. Finished the round less than 3.5 hrs. Friendly staff. Course was freshly mowed. Layout is wonderful. Lost a couple of balls in the tree line on the last 2 holes due to faulty drivings. Overall an enjoyable round.

Hurry up and wait
We were a 3some following a 3some and they and we had to wait on every tee. One problem was that it was a Sunday, so it was crowded. The pins on most greens were placed in the most difficult positions, slowing down the pace.

Good Track
Hickory Valley was in great condition, fairways were nice , the rough was difficult penalizing you for misses how it should be, and the greens were fast and rolling true, all you can ask for.

Love the variety and value
Pace of play is really the only negative at the Presidential course which I much prefer to the Ambassador. The tee boxes and greens are in excellent shape. Fairways and rough are just right. Layout is very challenging with distances for everyone. You need to be accurate on many holes. With 8, 9 and 10 being the toughest 3 holes on the course, you need to be on your game or else!

Ninety Percent Excellent
For 15 holes on the Presidential course, it was a nice experience. Solid play was rewarded with chances at par for an average player. If they just took down a bunch of trees on 16 & 17 to make them even remotely playable, they'd have an special course. But those trees have reduced the fairway to practically nothing which you just can't have on a long par 4 or par 5.
But apart from that, you have some challenging holes and some scoreable holes, with lots of hazards. Greens ran well at a fair speed, partly owing to rain the night before.
For the money it's a nice course to play for average and better players, but novices are not recommended.

A quiet golf retreat
I played the Ambassador’s course, they have a presidential course. The layout was tricky to maneuver, but the course was very well manicured, worthy of the name. Tuesday and Thursday morning they have leagues so stick to late afternoon play time those days. The starter wasn’t happy I showed up on time because I suppose the group I had been pairs with was there waiting for some time. I’m going to go back again.
