Slow green again
IDK what’s going on there other than there’s no funds available and that they don’t want the greens to burn out. No sand in the bunkers and green are running like at 5..
Great Track
Love the layout and customer service!
Hidden gem!! Don’t let the slow greens keep you from playing here. So much fun:)
Slow greens
I’m just gonna assume that those greens were slower than ever due to the fact that they’ve been watering. I am so used to playing those greens late in the afternoon when they’re fast.
Sportsmans doesn’t set up the greensmower on a weekly basis.
Nor do they sharpen the reels and bedknives which should be done monthly.
The greens will be slow as a result.
Can't make this stuff up
Booked a tee time yesterday, arrived and met two of the other playing partners, no problem. Final.playing partner shows up with his significant other and 4yr old, to " enjoy a nice day outside". He was supposed to be my riding partner, but with the cart full chose to walk.
Not only was he late for the round, attempted to putt before being reminded we are all now late, plus group waiting for us to tee off.
Set the tone for the day. If you want to spend the day outside with your family, plenty of options other then ruining the round for the others that came to golf. Or go later, when you have the time and space to let your kid play in the Green side bunkers. Parents literally let this kid play on the previous holes green with people hitting into it.
I would expect the course, as busy as they were to not allow it, but they did. So with this decision I will most likely not return. Too many other courses in the area that don't allow this nonsense.
AWESOMEEEE
Absolute bang for your buck, good course. Staff is extremely friendly, very customer service oriented, and always has a smile. An employee by the name of Trent helped guide me through some of the holes and is phenomenal!
SAVE YOUR MONEY
If this place is your only option, go bowling instead. Horrible Staff and a very unkept golf course. Whoever is currently running this place has taken a GEM and destroyed it.
Great day after a weekend of rain
Played Sunday morning after it rained for two days plus the first hour of our round. Course played exceptionally well given the conditions, not much puddling except in areas you wouldn’t expect otherwise. Ball was moving well. Didn’t have much company on the course until midday which was really nice to keep a decent pace going. My 2nd time playing here and I will definitely return again.
The mower needs a new job
One single lady ruined the day yelling at almost every hole at anyone or anything she can see. The grounds are bad at best. Greens are slow and filled with poop. Bunkers are just grass with some sand around the edges. Not worth anything over 15 bucks. Just go somewhere else. There will be tee times available I’m sure but do yourself a favor and don’t book.
Hidden Gem?
Layout was nice. Mature course tucked up to a mountain ridge. Greens were very good. Small targets but rolled true. I live about an hour away with many many courses to choose from and I'll be back.
Great Time
Lady at Counter was great, even left us get off early Course was in nice shape, but traps were a few drop.
Same as always
I haven't played at sportsman's for a few years, and it was much as I remembered. The course was in fairly decent condition, the greens were probably the best part. Snack bar and pro shop staff we're very friendly and accommodating, but as usual there was the unnecessary and rude run in with the nasty woman who runs the course. Should have known that would have happened here 🙄. I wasn't aware that the grass areas near the pavilion were so important. Every outing I've been to there, carts are all over the place in that area but I was told very sharply to "get off the grass" when I was looking for a porta john. That's why we stopped having our outing there years ago, due to her attitude! I'm not the only person I know who avoids Sportsman's due to her! Unfortunately, that hasn't changed either!
Very green
Course is in the best shape in years.
What happened to this Golf Course???!!!
I’ve played this course since I was a kid!
I’ve seen the major changes over the years.
There was major investment in the mid 1990’s.
Course was in great shape for 20 years!
But now… it’s obvious that nobody is setting up the mowers, maintaining the reels and bed knives!
This is basic stuff that should be happening daily, monthly etc….
Nobody has maintained the bunkers!
The course obviously doesn’t have a backhoe for reconstruction and drainage purposes!
There is zero drainage management happening!
Piles of wood everywhere - stacked for some reason when it could just be thrown into the nearby woods!
And homemade signs everywhere!!!!
These people are absolutely clueless about the basics of maintenance on a golf course!!!!
There’s no way they are doing the amount of rounds that they have done in the past!
The actual owners should take inventory of that.
Corporate owners who have zero interest- and an absolutely clueless management is a bad combination that will ultimately move this once beautiful course to the same fate of Blue Ridge!
Sportsman’s doesn’t do a weekly setup on their greensmower.
They do not sharpen the reels and bed knives on a monthly basis either.
That’s why the greens are slow.
They aren’t being properly maintained.
