fine course for all
Berkleigh continues to be one of the best kept secrets in public golf in this region. For the golfer from Philly who does not mind a 75 min drive to play at a fine course that still is kept like a private club, this is your place.. The value here is unreal as this type course usually costs plenty if near Philly.. For the fine player, Berkleigh has a 137 slope and plenty of big challenges. For the average player, Berkleigh has forward tees that make playing plenty of fun.. The only slight negative today was the traps are packed down too hard and need more sand in them, even though they are raked well.
Really Like This Course
Because of Golf Now. We drive over an hour to play Berkleigh. Great shape!
One of the Lehigh Valley's Best Public Courses!
Berkleigh's course may be public however, it still has the feel and upkeep of a private club. The pro shop is a little tiny with not a small selection of apparel and hats. Practice facilities such as putting greens and driving ranges were both in excellent condition. Tee boxes, fairways, roughs, fringes, and greens were all mowed to the appropriate heights. My only complaint is I would like to see more yardage markers throughout the course (perhaps that's why they have a yardage book for sale in the pro shop for $3!). Also a very walkable course. I was able to walk in just over 3.5 hrs and that was with a twosome holding me up, through the front 9. Other than that I highly recommend Berkleigh Golf Club to entertain clients, friends from out of town, or to just squeeze in a quick round.
A favorite
BerkLeigh has always been a great course and never disappoints. Course conditions were excellent, although I always find the rough to be a little too high for the average golfer. The only real negative is the extremely torn up cart paths. Love the course and the price is right.
Greens in nice shape
I saw some earlier reviews when the greens had just been aerated, they are in good shape now, was a little surprised how slow they rolled considering not very much rain recently.
Course was not very busy at 11:09 tee time, but somehow our foursome was continually waiting on the 2 twosomes in front of us; for $49 I was a little disappointed that there wasn't at least a ranger to keep people on pace.
Not many yardage markers.
Berkleigh in April
Overall course was in good condition except for the aerated greens, which made short putts nearly impossible. Should be much better in a week with some rain.
Good but not lacks imagination
Played on a beautiful and unusually warm day in December. Course was in great shape for that time of year. Course is pleasant enough but front 9 is like Groundhog Day; every hole is the same with a downhill tee shot over a creek and approach up hill to the green. Back 9 is more interesting. With Golfnow hot deals this is a good value; I don't think I'd play at full price in season.
greens were aerated
Got a great price, but greens were aerared in early Nov. and putting was difficult.
Great layout course
Beautiful well kept course with a challenge on every hole. I plan on coming again
one of the area's best publics
Berkleigh is in fantastic shape now and my round on 9/30 was really enjoyable.. The tees, fairways and greens are well kept and the bunkers are all raked and in fine shape.. I played from the back tees which have a 137 slope and its a fine test of golf.. Only 1 par 3 is less than 200 from the tips and they are toughies.. The front nine boasts 3 par 5s and 2 of them run parallel and are severely uphill.... The par 4's are a mix of long and short... and the course ends on 3 fairly easy short par 4 holes.. If you live in the Philly burbs as I do.. its an hour and 15 min drive and well worth it.The prices on golfnow are great and give the good golfer a value thats hard to beat..
Best in Berks County
I've played every public course in Berks County and this is the best blend of challenge and overall enjoyment.
Easy course from Tee to Green but Greens are Difficult
I had seen this course as one of the top 15 best public courses in PA, but I do not see it. I have played some other courses that are much better than this in the state of PA. It was a very nice course but definitely not in the top 15 and possibly not even the top 30. The greens were difficult but I had no problem hitting driver on all the holes and being less than 100 yards from the green on most of them. It basically turned into a pitch and putt course but some of the greens did not allow some birdies even though I managed to make 5 including 3 of the par 5s that I reached in 2 shots with a 5 iron or less. The greens kept the course difficult but still not the best course that I have played in the past month.
Favorite course in Lehigh Valley
I booked a 11:56 tee time as a single and on the fourth hole joined up with three nice guys. We were finished by 3:15 and that's after eating a hotdog on the turn.
Thi is a beautiful course
Nice course overall. Very well kept, and clean. Tough greens. I'm coming back next week for a rematch.
nice course
course is in great shape, has old style design, looks and plays like country club
Nice course
The course overall was in great shape, pace of play was even. Lack of beverage cart was disappointing. Rough was difficult to deal with, but still given the openness of the course it needs to be. I'd go back if I were down that way again.
Challenging course in great shape
This year has been great for golf courses and this one had good conditions on greens and fairways. Greens are tricky, fairways are hilly, very interesting lay out. Would like to play again.
Good Place for Golf
I specifically chose Berkleigh because of the challenge of the layout and the course conditions. I've never been disappointed. The pace of play, however, was quite slow. This is in large part due to a threesome in front of us on the front nine. The one golfer has no business being on a course like this and they never offered to let us play through, although we were constantly waiting. We skipped the ninth hole just to get past them. When we arrived at the tenth tee, there was a foursome on the tee box. They were obviously starting on #10. We were going to play the front nine again, but it was backed up. Overall, I enjoyed the golf course. I just got frustrated with the pace of play. There was no martial to enforce this.
Great course for the money
Excellent old style layout. Course well maintained except for bunkers which had not been raked in a long time. Greens healthy and true but slow. Great course for $23.
