very scenic course
Very nice course ,has 3 temporary tee areas under construction. Still is worth it to play number 10 is very high up dog leg right a lot of fun to play.
terrible
Was not aware that the first nine was under major renovations. hundreds of trees down, temporary tees, piles of dirt. What a mess. Sign at clubhouse says reduced rates because of construction. paid $20 + golfnow. Not worth it!
govt. made them cut all the trees!!!!
hopefully, subset can figure out how to make a success out of the current situation. from what i was told the govt. made them cut all of the trees due to the airport. makes not sense to anyone that i spoke with about it. it looked like a tornado or bomb hit. some holes closed and the course was entirely unrecognizable. anyway, always loved the course and hope they can figure it out. perhaps, now a links style course.
Decent Course for a Decent Price
I played Sunset Golf Course for the first time on a 'Hot Deals' around noon on a very hot day. I was pair up with another single and twosome, who also booked on Golf Now.
The course was laid out in a pretty good fashion, subtle and sharp dog legs, long downhill par 3s and one short par 3 to an elevated green.
One hole had a 'temporary green' due to some work - in other words, the flag was in the middle of the fairway in front of the green on a Par 5. This was pretty frustrating, so we played that as long as you hit the flagstick 'holder' in the ground, you holed out.
Hole 10 as you begin the back nine is a 150 ft downhill tee shot to a sharp dogleg right. If you place your tee shot 200-220 straight out, you have a clear shot to a massive green. If you hit a shorter club, keep it on the left side of the fairway, and you can play a straight or slight fade into the green... or punch it out and have it roll on.
The course was pretty fun for the first time, but it's not on my 'favorites' list. I would play there again for the $10 Hot Deal though!
Excellent and Well Maintained Golf Course
First time playing at the Sunset golf course and we were not disappointed. The course was excellent and well maintained.
Nice course
Very diverse and changing course looking forward to playing their again great scenery
super condition
The course was in fantastic condition, tee boxes were excellent (no temporary tees), greens not quick but rolled true. Fairways could not have been better. Pro shop guy was a bit curt, but the bar/restaurant people were great. Will definitely continue to play here this winter if weather allows.
first time
It was my first time playing this course. The course was very good and in great condition especially considering that it is December! The guy at the front desk had the personality of a tree stump.
Poor pace
The course is in nice shape. The pace of play was horrible! I don't know if the course took to many tee times but we were waiting on every hole and just about every shot... My group usually will get through a round in three and half hours to four, it took us over five to get through this course. It took ALL the enjoyment out of the round.
Majestic view on 1 and 10 -
Jets landing and flying over added cool optics to the round. Cool view of airport and 3 mile island!
Drenched
Was trying to get a round in for a scramble on Saturday that was rescheduled due to hurricane rain system coming through. It rained early and long on Thursday despite the forecast not really indicating that so I was soaked. A lot of standing water due to volume of rain and had to take relief from standing water on greens and bunkers, etc. I love this course though and always have. The lager on tap here is perfect from Yeungling! Finally have spicy mustard that was heat for my hot sausage (another tradition of mine at Sunset). They need to add more sand to the bunkers so it is less like hitting out of cement or gritty little pebbles. Love some of the new approach angles on number 11 and one other par 3 on the front nine. 17th is still a great test as is the second!! 10th hole is so great now and love how they opened up the area between 18th hole and tenth fairway! Cannot wait to have a scramble there!!!!
Nice course
Nice course, not crazy difficult, definitely a fun course with some great views. I think this is generally one of the best values in the area.
They have raised their game!!!
It has been a few years since I played here, so I was pleasantly surprised how the facility has improved. The course was in very good condition. The greens were in excellent condition...medium speed. The rough was fair to amateur players, without being an automatic two stroke excursion. The pace of play was slow and there were no marshals on the course. The views from this course are spectacular! Pick the right day and you'll see Air Force 1 shooting approaches into HIA.
Great course
First time I have ever played this course and I enjoyed the entire outing. I highly recommend it and I will be back very soon to give it another go. Oh and with the price from Golf Now app. $39.00 for two golfers with a cart...AWESOME.
big planes
you have to climb a big hill to get to the course which leaves you with a great view of the river. then the planes buzz you continuously on the front nine. the back nine provides you with views of 3 mile island. would recommend course on a weekday. I played behind a tournament and waited on every shot after the first 2 holes. still took less than 41/2 hours since its such a short course. felt like every other hole was a par 3
Hidden Gem
This course was a pleasure to play. The only real downside to this course was the airport noise. Excellent price for condition of course. Fun to play. Scenic views. I will play this course again and that is the highest compliment you can give to a golf course.
Amazing Views
This is a nice course, especially for a average golfer. The course is very forgiving. Course is maintained well and the views of the area are incredible!
