Very friendly Fun course,
I have always had fun here. Loved the resteraunt (till Covid came along), they just keep the snack bar opened now.
Every part of your game gets challenged here.
Always enjoyable.
Always enjoy Tanglewood. Friendly staff. Helpful that they have an offsite range just down the street. I played on Oct. 27th and the greens were about a 6 out of their normal 10. Still recovering from aeration and a bit shaggy which is not normal for Tanglewood. Even so, the greens were fast.
The more I play here the more I feel like the architecture is not that great. There are a few interesting green complexes but the tee to green design is pretty bland.
The course plays 5900 yards from the "back" tees. Actually there are tees further back but they have been abandoned to speed up play. Too many high handicappers were holding up play by hacking away from the tips. It's really a shame because 5900 is very short and not much of a challenge if you're hitting it 210-250. Driver, wedge all day. It would be great to see them open up the back tees, maybe just during the week?...don't know if that's feasible.
Something about the people and place here - a very relaxing atmosphere.
Great value, rock hard greens
We played here yesterday AM and got the weekend rate of $50, which included lunch at the turn. The course was overall in great shape but the greens were rock hard. It was almost impossible to hold them. They had been punched in the past 2 weeks so that could contribute to it. Nothing that will prevent us from coming back. The staff were extremely friendly, pace of play was decent, and the course offered some challenges. All in all, it was a fun round.
Very SLOW!!!
Course layout is fun and staff is very friendly. But, it was the slowest round I have played in quite some time. At no time did I see a Marshall patrolling the course to politely ask players to pick-up pace of play.
Enjoyable and Challenging.
Course is in excellent condition. My second time playing here. Staff is friendly and informal.
The par fours and fives are fairly short but even if you hit it 250 plus, you have to deal with the real star of the show at this course, which are the huge, undulating and very, very fast greens. What makes it fun is that the greens are almost immaculate and run straight and true. The course requires a really sharp short game.
Highly recommend Tanglewood as one of the real values out there for excellent conditions and great greens.
Great Course
Great Course, in great condition. Sand traps were awful but I will chalk that up to the 7 inches of rain we got earlier in the week. Good bang for your buck as well. Extra Bonus is they allow you to bring your own beer. Will defintely be headed back for another round!
Worth Playing
The story at Tanglewood is the greens. They are huge and difficult due to severe slopes but the ball rolled true and the greens were in first class shape. Pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday at noon.
The par 4s are mostly short but if you want to score you must hit it straight. Tanglewood is very tight and challenging, much more so than the average course. Also the rough is cut a little high, so finding balls is not always easy. Overall the course was in awesome shape
I can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff. Even the course owner visited us out on the first nine to make sure everything was going great. This place is not owned by a corporation with various courses but by a family obviously invested in providing a first class experience.
Honestly I'm not a fan of the course architecture. Some holes seem similar and sort of ordinary in design, but I would come back here again in a heartbeat. I wish I lived in the general vicinity because with Pilgrim Oaks just a few miles down the road, this area has some of the best golf I've seen in PA.
