The finest putting surfaces I've putted on in years, super job by maintenance.

Very slow 5.5 hour round. Not a bad first few holes, but back up on 3 all the way through 18. Behind very slow groups. Marshall did nothing.

But the greens and some of the layouts are challenging

Teed off at 8, finished at 1130- greens were as good as anywhere I have played this year- tee boxes were a bit unlevel in spots- course played beautifully.

This was our first time playing here and wanted to give it a try before the renovations and improvements happen, we liked it enough to go back the next week and play it again in better weather. We understand there is new ownership and course management and are hopeful that the course will improve. That said, the newly refurbished greens were magnificent, and I understand that the new course superintendent decided to concentrate on the greens first--and glad that he did--like putting on velvet! The rest of the course was a bit rough around the edges, but definitely playable and we are looking forward to the transition over the next year--if the rebuilt greens are any example of the quality of this new superintendent, then this is a course that Donald Ross would be proud of again, in time! A few quick suggestions, that I'm hopeful are on the to-do list:

1. Replace the porta potties with a higher quality model, the one I used was scary! Better yet add a full service bathroom somewhere between 9th and 10th holes (to avoid having to double back to the clubhouse).

2. Even though the restaurant was closed, the patio could have been better maintained, we would've liked to have stayed for a chat and beers but many of the chairs were overturned, the tables were not clean, and there was a lot of debris on the patio floor. We didn't have a beverage cart the Sunday or Friday we played, if that continues, they should encourage a BYOB policy until that service is available again.

3. The ladies’ restroom and pro shop could use some extra attention to cleanliness and some renovations, both were a bit shabby. Women will like this course, it plays well to our handicaps, but the amenities are lacking feminine appeal. IMO.

4. Better markings for yardage/distance from holes, I was always guessing—I haven’t adjusted to GPS yet.

5. Maybe consider (someday) reversing the order of the holes so the ocean holes are on the front nine, that way nine-hole players will have a chance to play the ocean holes—as it is now if you can play just 9 holes, you will miss those holes if only allowed to play the front 9.

6. A practice driving range of any size would be nice to warm up, it doesn’t need to be extensive.

We will be back to play again and monitor the progress of improvements to the tee boxes, fairways, traps and cart paths--all are fixable with an experienced superintendent and enough staff to make it all come together!

I've never had a worse experience dealing with a pro shop attendant. This guy really tried to charge me for an entire 18 holes after I had already paid for a "hot deals" tee time for 9 holes because, in his words "we don't see a single dime from hot deals tee times". I simply wanted to pay for the additional 9 holes, but he wasn't having it. He insisted that I either play 9 holes only or pay for 18 holes out of pocket on top of what I had already paid. Eventually I got him to change his stance on the matter, but the damage had already been done. Just an angry-at-everything older gentleman given a bit too much power.

On top of that experience it was still a strange one. Multiple stranded golf carts on the course, aswell as the group in front of my friend and I running out of gas. Just weird. Then the jerk from the proshop had the audacity to drive out on the course and tell my group to hurry up when there was nobody behind us for 1.5 holes and the same for in front of us. There's probably nobody on the course because of the awful hospitality (besides crap conditions). They should really fire that guy. I'll never be back.

Only played front nine so can't comment on 10-18. Greens were immaculate. Some of the best all year. Tee boxes not so much and fairways were just so-so. Lot of elevation and some blind spot shots made it more interesting. Will come back and hope to play a full round. Money value rating based on Hot Deal and Golf Now credits but it look to be pretty competitive with other courses in the area.

An absolute Gem on the coast of southern Rhode Island. The greens are outstanding, like putting on a carpet, or Astro Turf. The fairways are beautifully maintained, and tee boxes are great. Found out it’s a Donald Ross Course. An absolute treasure of a golf course.

Didn’t book through Golf Now after reading the previous reviews. Talked the pro shop manager, Miss Gay, she was pleasant. She explained that Golf Now offers more than one “Hot Deal” per hour, yet winnapaug only schedules one hot deal per hour. Never the less, I booked my tee time directly on Winnapaug’s golf website with no issues.

No one was playing behind me, took my time and enjoyed every second out of this beautiful course. Nearly had a hole in one on 16, 5 feet from the pin. Shot my personal best for 18 holes!

Donald Ross must have spent a little more time designing this outstanding golf course. Highly recommend. Will be playing over and over.

Pro Shop staff was very friendly.

Tee boxes were a disaster.

Fairways were alright, need some love.

Greens were excellent, some of the best kept greens I’ve ever played.

I probably have EEE from all the mosquitos.

The cart girl called in sick on a sunny 90 degree Sunday morning. So there was no juice cart making the rounds and no coolers throughout the course.

I thought I was going to have to drink out of the water hazard.

Good round, but the place needs some love.

I have played this course many, many times over the past 10 years. Finally, after some serious neglect the course is gradually being restored to decent conditions. Greens (all) are fabulous, fairways & tee boxes are coming back, (some are still poor, but others are excellent). I have witnessed the hard working maintenance staff and I let them know each time I play what a great job they are doing in bring this course back. It is a work in progress, kudos to current ownership for spending the $$$$$ to improve conditions.

This Donald Ross design has seen better days. Woman at the desk explained due to Covid-19 they are short staffed and even had to close the restaurant to keep going. Greens are excellent for a public course and pace of play was 4 hours again excellent

Golf Now advertised an 18 hole rate but when we arrived discovered it was only 9 hole and since another twosome had booked the same time this violated Golf Now agreement. Person at desk agreed to honor the amount paid to Golf Now and we paid the difference.

Wish the owner well in bringing the course back to better days.

I thought i was booking 18 holes but was deceived and only booked 9 holes. Online does not show it is 9 holes and describes the course as 18 holes. Staff would not give a break even thou the previous week the same tee time was for 18 holes. Be very careful booking this course you may only get 9 holes.

Golf Now however compensated me for the problem. i highly recommend Golf Now
