Great Setting for Golf!
Winnapaug Golf Course is a very nice layout situated very near the shore of Block Island Sound. It’s hilly with wide landing areas for tee shots and reachable par-3s that are welcoming to all levels of players. The weekday costs are about the best in the region and worth the trip from the hometown. Southerly breeze usher in the salt-tinged aroma of the ocean while keeping the temperature comfortable. The fairways are well maintained and the greens provide true roll and just enough slope to test the player’s putting skills. The friendly Winnapaug staff are ready to welcome you and show you the way to an enjoyable round of seaside play.
Fastest greens around
Winnapaug has done a lot of work on the course the last 2 years and it shows. I have played there 8 or 10 times and there are always doing improvements. I LIKE FAST GREENS!
For the money not too bad
Greens are fast with breaks that are severe. you have to know where to land on the green. Hit shots to the greens that roll off after being 20 feet into the green. Tee boxes are terrible. Early in season but too many bare spots in all areas of the course, (fairways as well as the rough). Golf carts are in terrible shape. For the price OK.
Never again, should have listened to past reviews
I read some of these reviews and I should have listened. I took the first tee time at 7AM and showed up early. Me and a few other people with later tee times Sat there waiting the whole time. Guy showed up almost an hour late. Then makes us play as a foursome when we told him we booked separate on purpose he showed up late. I booked to play as quick as possible since I had limited time. He immediately gets an attitude, yells at everyone, and says if we want to do that we should come early. -__- There were also zero other tee times booked after us the whole day. The staff is insane, the course was in mediocre shape, really wacky lay out with zero directions. I then got followed around by the ranger who tried to get us all to rejoin when I was 4 holes ahead! Save your money, never again.
Ace on 12
First time playing Winnapaug since I was a kid. Course was in good shape for early April and greens are in great shape. Had my first Hole-in-1 on the beautiful Par 3 12th. Overall great track.
Worth the drive
Overall the course seems to be making improvements. I’m preferable towards Donald Ross courses I enjoy challenging greens. I had a son who was a superintendent at a number of Ross courses in Massachusetts, so I’m use to the bounce of the important wedge shot on false fronts!
Winter Golf
I think our country’s meteorologist either have a very tough job, or else it’s a guessing game. It’s a big risk signing up for paid green fees. If you have a tee time paid for and it’s pelting rain when you arrive, do you feel that you are still obl
Best place to play after heavy rain!
Course has a come a long way the last 2 years. I always see someone working on course, today they were removing boulders from 5th fairway. All 3 tee boxes are open which is rarely seen in the winter. Keep up the work!
Greens are in great shape. One of the better conditioned courses in the area
No one was at Pro Shop and the golf club looks closed despite their web site says open and we had a tee time at 11AM. We could not play
The basic business manner was not met. This was unacceptable as Golf club.
